Hi guys

Bit of a weird problem here. I got a BSOD and now I can't get my PC to turn on.

I have two scenarios:

1. I use my onboard GPU:
When I put it on it stays on for a little while then just dies. After it's dead I can't put it back on again. It's as if the power just doesn't want to work. I have to unplug the PC's power and reset the BIOS for it to power up again.

Video for clarity: Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUBYNL7Q5PI

2. I use GPU
The GPU fan spins at 100% power but nothing happens on the monitor. Power also cuts out like when I use the onboard but it takes a bit longer.

I've swapped out the PSU and the same thing happens so we can rule that out.

PC specs:
CPU: Intel i5-4570
MB: Gigabyte H87M-D3H
GPU: GTX 760
RAM: 2 x 2GB
PSU: Seasonic 620W
SATA drives: 1x SSD, 1 x HHD

Any ideas?

Try updating the bios, also in the bios check which gpu it's set to use

Does your motherboard have a diagnostic LED light on it? (Can't see it on the product sheet) If it does, it may be easier to track down the problem. Sounds like it may be a motherboard issue, are all your components visible from within the BIOS menu? It supports dual BIOS, so maybe try flashing your BIOS with the latest version and see if it makes any difference?

It does smell vaguely temp related. Can you get for enough in the bios to check cpu temp?

Does it bomb faster if its been switched on recent (thus warm already) vs a complete cold start?

Mobo is definitely the prime suspect here.

Whoah thanks for the replies guys

No Diagnostic LED unfortunately. Everything is visible from the BIOS.

Onboard is enabled, so it'll select whichever one is plugged in.

Thermal paste ?

CPU is pretty new so I don't think it would be thermal paste. Also, the PC dies pretty soon after a cold start so I think we can rule that one out.

Could thermal shutdown due to cpu overheating.

Lol, next time :P

I've downloaded an upgraded BIOS version but I'm a bit hesitant to do it... I don't want to try and flash it and the PC bombs out 1/2 way. How long does flashing a 8MB file take anyways?

Check the other threads
3/10 - poor save

No I couldn't be arsed to check said unspecified "other threads".

im making a satirical joke.
If it had literary merit or was passably funny then it could be called satire / a joke. In this case its just sarcasm.

I've tried convincing people that sarcasm has literary merit...didn't stick. Much to my dismay...

You should be hearing some beeps from BIOS startup at least.
Some other things to try:
1. With the PC unplugged, reset your BIOS i.e. unplug mobo the battery and leave out a min.
2. Unplug all unessential hardware to boot up, including HD's

I would not do that either unless the MB has dual bios.

One of my old pc's also did something like this, but it switched off after a few seconds. Didn't get to BIOS or anything. That was the capacitors on the mobo that got loose. Had to replace it.

also had something like this happen to me,

removed everything from my PC, board included, and bench tested the whole thing outside the casing, with 1 ram stick(if possible) and on-board video to see if it makes any difference, also plugged my piezo speaker into my MB to see if any beep codes come up.

only when it was outside did it all work, strangely enough, so I do get your frustration with this whole issue.

only after putting everything back and testing again did everything work properly as it should be.
(still dont know what caused it)
