A configuration like this one will give you serious performance and Serious Potential for overclocking and Tweaking only down side is the Price!! If you have a limited budget go for a mother board with atleast 1333 fsb and make sure it is a decent board like an Asus board! Get your self a Intel duel core E2160 overclock it to 3 Ghz with some water cooling and you will have something that compares well to a top range core2duo CPu Dont skimp on the Hard Drives and the 3D Card! And ATM X38 has nothing really over the P35 chipsets as far as overclocking goes. Maybe X48 will fix this...but not X38.

An asus P5K mobo(R1150) is a good choice and is a very good OCing board but does not support RAID 1&0 configurations(well not in a normal way, you can apparently do RAID 1/0 with an external and internal HD)

you need to take out more time to refine it

Lol i have yes, for my DX10 games

When I get a new HD to replace my old 80 gig sata (like 2 years now so its slow) then I will do a clean install and maybe get rid of XP

Yes if raid is important to you that is And if it is just go P5K-E and all of that is solved with added wifi and super OCing and still a R1000 cheaper

got to love those E21xx chips OC' like there is no tomorrow! Get a Gigabyte Water cooling system [not too sure on the name] think It is compatible w/ the E2160 get 3.0Ghz easy!!
