Is it possible to get something decent for around R2.5-3.5k

I don't need HDD or GPU for now, will use my old ones until I can upgrade them.
Basically MOBO, CPU, PSU, RAM and if budget permits a case, but not a necessity.

hmmm thats pretty tight :/ 5k will last you better in the long run than what 3.5k would

What do you currently have? (Details)

R4k will get you a decent MB & CPU minus RAM & PSU hence me asking what you currently have.

The only thing you can use from there is the PSU & GPU.

Can you up your budget a bit, maybe save some more? Then you can get a i5 & Z77 motherboard.

Yeah it looks like I might have to save a bit more, I really want to spend as little as possible on an upgrade though.

I really need a new case and PSU as my current PC sounds like a jet engine taking off and I'm pretty sure that's from the PSU.

What do you think about something like this if I can get it for a good price?
i3-2100
Intel H67 Mitx
4gb 1333mhz DDR3
HD5770

...or a combo of the above with something else

Try and aim for that, would be a pretty good upgrade.

What features do you require from a motherboard?

Maybe this?

MSI H61M-P31 (G3) - R459
Intel Core i3-2120 - R1,282
Transcend JM1600KLN-4G - R236

Total: R1977+R75(shipping)

This PSU should be good enough: Corsair CX430 V2 - R484

Possible graphics card upgrade: Sapphire HD7770 - R1,456

I would recommend one of these instead though:
MSI R7770 Power Edition 1GD5/OC - R1,490 [SOLD OUT]
GIGABYTE GV-R777OC-1GD, HD7770 OC - R1,577

Well I'm not sure... I need to be able to put it in a normal PC case, would help if it was a nice one :P

The MSI H61M-P31 listed above is pretty basic and will fit in a normal Pc case, the nice thing about the board is that it supports PCI-E 3.0, All Solid Capacitors and has 6 USB 2.0 ports at the back whereas most motherboards at the price range only have 4. It also has a onboard GPU and DVI support so you can still use your Pc if you GPU ever fails. Overall I think it's pretty good value for money.

Then you should be able to get a Z77 MB, i5 3570k CPU & 8GB RAM to use with your existing stuff.

You did say you will get a new GPU later at which stage you could also look at a new PSU. What make & model is your existing PSU?

I have to get a new psu with the upgrade as I need to use my old one for someone else.

It's some generic 500w one.

Looks good, you can get cheaper Ram if you want to though, the difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz is very very minimal, so minimal that you shouldn't pay more for it, unless it's on par or cheaper than 1333MHz.

Apacer 2048MB DDR3 240-Pin DIMM, 1.5V - R125.00
Corsair DESKTOP MEMORY 2GB DDR3 1333 - R156.00

Also if you see something on a different online store that NGRComputers doesn't have listed or it's more expensive you can email [email protected] and ask to source or match the price, he has been very accommodating to me in the past.
