I'm currently gaming @ 1366x768 and let the game determine my graphics settings.I would like to utilize the monitor properly and game @ 1920x1080, my setup is listed below. What can I keep and what would I have to upgrade? I was thinking cpu to an i7-4790 and gpu to a GTX 1060-3GB and maybe increasing the ram to 16gb. All input would be greatly appreciated.

Psu - Coolermaster GX2 550W

Cpu - i3-4130

Mobo - Gigabyte B85M – HD3 (Socket 1150)

Gpu - GTX 750 2GB

Ram - Kingston HyperX 1600mhz 4GB DDR3 x2

SSD - Samsung Evo 850 250GB

HDD - Seagate 1TB 7200rpm

Monitor- Dell P2417h

I have an i5 2500k, 16GB DDR-1600 and a GTX 970. Win 10 on an SSD.

I game happily at 1920x1080 on high or very high.

CPU wise, there's not much in it, performance-wise between your CPU and mine.

GPU-wise, my card is between 50-150% faster than yours, depending on application.

Your suggested upgrade would work well. Just upgrading your GPU would be your main, initial performance boost and will change your life.

Get a i7-4790 from PotterH on Carbonite,
http://carbonite.co.za/member.php?u=29022
http://www.mineaway.co.za/index.php?route=product/product&path=94_96_105&product_id=60
or see if someone else is maybe selling a used one for less over at Carb.

I would advise against the 3GB gtx 1060 it's slower than a 6GB 1060 and 3GB vram is a limitation these days so rather get,
http://www.wootware.co.za/galax-geforce-gtx-1060-exoc-6gb-gddr5-pci-e-3-0-desktop-graphics-card.html or
http://www.wootware.co.za/zotac-gef...or-or-tom-clancy-s-ghost-recon-wildlands.html

8GB of RAM is still ok for now ;)

I second poking PotterH on carbonite for a 4790, you can get one pretty cheap from him.
Also look on carbonite for a nice gpu, i got my msi gtx980 4gig there for R3800.

Thanks for the replies everybody, the reason I am looking at the 1060 3gb is because it's on special for R3299 at Wootware. The Psu has lasted 3yrs and survived load shedding, but having said that it's probably better in the long run to get a decent one. Any suggestions?

@ ponder: Thanks for the links, I see the cpu at Mineaway is out of stock but will contact them as that price is unbelievable.

Those single fan 1060s have really schitty coolers, not advised.

See if this is still available,

You will need to buy a separate cooler if you get a CPU from Mineaway. They are tray CPUs meaning no HSF.

As for power supplies:

Thanks I will get that psu, as for the cooler Can't I just use the existing stock fan that's on my i-3 ?

You really should go for an after market cooler, if the cooler is the same as an i5 there should be no problem, however intel stock coolers are pretty crappy as of late, a Cheapish cooler even some thing like the coolermaster hyper212X or evo could shave off 10-15 degrees or more with the right thermal paste. If you get some thing like the hyper212 which is a pretty decent cooler it works on most intel sockets or you simply get a new bracket, but as far as I am aware it works out of the box on most intel sockets.

Ah ok, will look at the 6gb version on wootware then. I contacted mineaway and they will let me know when stock is available on the i7.

Seeing as this upgrade is getting pricey I might just go for a new kabylake i-5 build, keeping the current Hdd, ssd, monitor and other peripherals and build my current pc into an old case and flog it.

Hows this cpu ,ok?

Thanks, have lots to think about now, should have come on here before I built the current pc

Playing a chaos fight scene on Dishonored 2,Fraps gives me 28 - 50 fps with settings on low 1920x1020 and game felt laggy and graphics looked shyte. On 1366x768 I got 45 -60 fps using my old synchmaster 933 monitor and no lag that I noticed.

So you want to buy a new MB+CPU+RAM instead of just a CPU which is gonna cost even more?

CPU is ok but it's really kuk deal compared to an i7-6700 for R2600 http://www.mineaway.co.za/index.php?route=product/product&path=94_96_105&product_id=64

If you wan't to go the skylake route then mineaway(potterh) or gtxgaming can probably give you a combo deal with that i7-6700+mb+ram, just ask.
