Evening,

I am currently weighing up my options in order to buy a Android TV or keep my PC to use KODI as I cancelled my DSTV subscription.

Currently I am using my playstation 3 to stream sports on Cricfree.sx but cannot watch most of the channels due to the flash player being outdated and no updates available. My PS3 streams full HD videos from you tube without buffering and when I try to watch the same on my PC the videos buffer....very frustrating!! Anyhow with the PS 3 not being able to update the flashplayer and not able to install KODI I am considering upgrading my PC not to buffer if it is possible, or to buy a decent Android TV box.

If anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated as I have limited knowledge of computers.

My PC specs:
Processor - Intel Pentium 4
CPU - 3.2 GHz
Ram - 4 GB

Oh and i have a 4mb ADSL line.

Don't expect to play Flash content with Android boxes either, while possible (I think it still is), it's not a pleasant experience.

While you decide you can get yourself a cheap Chromecast (can pick them up second hand) and cast tabs from Chrome when you need to use those Flash sites.

I actually want to use Kodi to stream sports and movies and although I can stream some HD streams on Kodi they still buffer quite alot, hence the reason i am considering a Anroid tv box.

I will give Chromecast a go as well.

Anyone have any explanations for that bold bit?

Hi Neoprod,

What explanation do you need on that bit? You tube has an app on the PlayStation store which i use to watch videos.

Why the ps3 streaming works better than PC streaming. I don't understand that on the same network...does Sony have a local cache in SA or something?

Because he is using a Pentium 4, so it more than likely simply does not have the horsepower to play 1080P.

I have no idea why it works so well on the PS 3 and struggles on my PC.

What affects streaming speed on your PC? (except internet speed)

Okay so it seems i need to invest in a new motherboard. what is a decent motherboard now which has HDMI etc....

Will it be better to invest in my PC than to spend the money on the Android box.

Your PC is so old you will have to buy everything new, HDD, PSU, RAM, CPU and motherboard.

You can't really beat having a dedicated HTPC, because you have zero limitations, if you want to watch something you install the program or open the webpage.

I do not know if it is really worth paying in excess of R 5 000.00 to upgrade my PC only to stream and do the occasional download......

If you check on the Carbonite classifieds you can often find PCs made to be home entertainment systems for ~R2000.

Just last week I saw a great full i3 bundle, tiny case and everything for R1500.

Cool i will have a look, thank you for the help, much appreciated.

I will ask again if I need more info
