Hey i have a intel G31 mobo a q9550 and 2gb jetram ,i tried to change the fsb:ram ratio from auto to 1.0:2.0 and then the pc shut down.i tried to boot up again but at im getting is a beeping noise. It is constant every few seconds and does not stop.Any ideas what the problem could be? Is the mobo fried? The ram is working find because i put it into my other machine with no problems.Any ideas suggestions please?

Clear the cmos and if that doesn't work, tell me how long the beeps are, if there is a gap in between them (is it two beeps, a pause, two beeps for example)

You can also just pull out the cmos battery, wait about a minute and then put the battery back in. Easy way to clear the cmos :) it should reset everything back to default

Thanks for all the replies guys ,sorry for not updating was out for a bit ,ok so i shoulda mentioned that i tried the cmos clear and pulling out the battery stuff already ,was the 1st things i did but had no luck and about the beeping its 1 beep every 3secs.

Three long beeps from one of the links below indicates:
3 beeps - Base 64 K memory failure

* Reseat the memory.
* Make sure that the contacts on the memory and the socket are clean.
* Try removing one bank of memory modules at a time. Note: Some systems might need to have a memory module in Bank 0.
* Try using memory modules from the same manufacturer with the same part number and speed.
* Check for a faulty memory module by trying the memory in a known good system.
* Trying known good memory in the system.
* Check the power supply and check for power fluctuations.
* If the steps above do not resolve the problem, the desktop board may be defective. Try a different desktop board.

Do you have a actual Intel MB or is it another brand using the Intel chipset?

If removing the CMOS battery (for 1 hour) does not work then try http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-023360.htm as I think it's still using the timings you set and if it is wrong it will bitch about the memory.

You should really try and put important info like that in your post as we cannot smell what you have got.

Care to share the model number & type of BIOS (Award, American Megatrends, Insyde Software, Phoenix Technologies) the board uses.

Can you try another cpu in that mother board?

Try This

Assuming the M/Board is working well and all jumpers are set correctly.

Try the following :

Turn PC off from mains power supply.

Donot touch any chips or IC's on M/ Board

Remove all cabling from Hard drive - CD Rom - and any other peripherals.

With just the m/board + CPU

Ram - power plugged in

Clear CMOS with jumpers or remove battery.

Try turning the pc on.

PC should come to bios.

Then use trial & error and check if any attached devices or cabling is faulty.

Important : Ensure correct bus speed of RAM - M/Board must support Ram bus speed. If not pc wont come on at all.

Ensure CPU fan is working.

Ensure power supply is not faulty.

Ensure M/Board or CPU is not Fried.

Hope this helps.

If all else fails get a new PC.
