I found this pc in my back room and thought that I could use it. I turned it on but nothing happens.

No POST, it just says :"cannot find bios image on disk drive or diskette".

I have not got a stiffy drive on this pc and it wont detect it either.

How can I solve this problem?

Seems like there might be a chance that the Motherboard bios is corrupted,
although the fact that it states "cannot find bios image on disk drive or diskette" means that there might be a chance to fix it..

1. Get a stiffy drive somewhere and connect it to the system
2. When message appears see if it tries to access the stiffy drive (light goes on)
3. If you pass step 2 ...go to the motherboards website and download the proper bios update...smack that onto the stiffy (using another pc) and see if that works...

Good Luck :)

tried that.

I tried that, but the system does not even read the stiffy drive. The light does not come on.

Okay...eeeek....no that's a problem....sorta got me hands cut off now...

Okay...this is a long shot but i have seen this before....do as much of the following as possible....maybe you get lucky...

1. Disconnect all optical and harddrives
2. Also remove all the ide cables out of the machine
3. Remove the system battery and disconnect the power cord
4. Remove any PCI/ISA based card that does not have to be there (modem, ethernet, etc)
5. Reseat the memory and if possible in another slot
6. If the processor is slot 1 try to reseat that as well
7. After doing all of the above ...reinsert the battery then the power cord and try again

P.S. also make sure that all the jumpers on the board are set correctly, (Bus,Multiplier..maybe even a bios protection jumper or something stupid like that)

Good Luck once again

no. not that i know of. Should i just try to replace the bioschip? or should i just toss it? it's not that old. Maybe a year at the most.

Huh!!!!??!! ...a year or so....tell me what are the specs of the machine...

some boards (gigabyte, asus, etc,) have a three year warranty

Hmm... "curried" hey, sounds like he lives in Durban, well toss it out, ill send a courier.

The problem with the stiffy drive might just be that its a crappy stiffy drive, or that the cables are the wrong way around, or you have not plugged in the power etc, try some simple things first. It would be weird if stiffy just doesnt work at all. Try another drive if you are sure that one doesnt work.

Well I somehow doubt it would be a problem with the stiffy, caus how is the pc meant to read the stiffy drive, when there is no BIOS loaded. That is where the probelem lies: You need a BIOS to read a stiffy, and you need the stiffy to load a BIOS, so it is a bit of a messed up situation.
