I was considering purchasing the Intel Core i7 3770k 3.50GHz base system from PC Zone in Ballito http://www.zones.co.za. I just wanted to know if any of you here have bought a PC from them and if so what was your experience with them.

The fact that they want R1699 for Windows 8 Pro is off putting. Especially since Makro is selling it for R549.00.
OK , the thing is that I have found is that their manager SUX. I wanted a system from them without the crap MB they supply on their special price list, they had stock of everything but a cpu, I suggest he just take one out of the pre-built systems , as I did not mind if it has already been opened. He objected to this happening and I walked out with them loosing a 11k sale on that day.
I have had similar experiences in all of their other branches so I suppose its not a branch thing , more of a ZONE thing.

Don't expect much in terms of customer service especially if you ever have to return something for warranty. Given that it's almost unheard of a CPU failing, you should be good.

Also remember that if you get a PC from them it will only have a 1 year warranty on it, so you got to ask yourself if it's really worth it instead of just building one yourself and getting better warranties and the PC you actually want.
Also they use the cheapest RAM off the back of a truck in China and I have personally had problems because of this in the past.

there customer service is beyond terrible. dont expect quotes back on request or information either through email or calling them and the sales people on the ground dont know much about items coming into stock or not. However there products are cheap and work. Normally buy cheap computers and bits and pieces from them but leave more expensive parts and pc's from better serviced shops.

Make sure you keep your receipt in a safe place, scan it and mail it to yourself as well.
Their stuff is cheap and it pretty much works fine.

Windows 8 prices should have jumped to $200 from the beginning of Feb. If you see it for R549 you just found an arbitrage opportunity.

My parents bought a pre built PC from them, it had some cheap board inside and the LAN port stopped working properly. They refused to sort it out. They also tried to blame issues on arbitrary things like "linux caused it" or "you have a pirate copy of windows"
It was actually an MSDN copy of windows so there was no sticker on the case,
the genius they employed to do repairs in the Pinetown branch assumes no sticker = pirate copy

had 4 x 4GB mem fail from the which they would not swop out because my customer got a complete system from them and all i took in was the ram only. I had to get the system working so used some mem for my pc so my customer could carry on running thier business....they wanted the whole system to be booked in for repairs and that it would take two weeks. WTF. plus they say the warranty is void because i opened it up.

I've bought from them in the past. While they are relatively cheap, don't expect much if something breaks or goes wrong. They REALLY aren't helpful. That being said, I would still buy the odd thing from them - Just not any HDD's
Only deal with PC Zone Ballito. The customer service over there is really good and you can customize your PC with whatever they can get hold off. I dealt with their warranty dept once only in 10 years and i had no issues. They do stock better brands than Mitabyte.
Their base systems though are generally pre-built Esquire PC's.
My advice is get an Esquire account and ask the rep at Esquire to have your PC customized.

Adding my 2c:
They're ridiculously cheap (cheaper than Rectron/Esquire in some instances). I've bought 3 PCs and countless other things from them and had no issues.
But (and it's a big one):
You have know exactly what you want before you go there, be prepared to pay cash to get a better deal, and shout louder than everyone else in order to get service.

You shouldn't have to do that, IMHO.
Why should you give them your money, including their profits, and expect zero or rather a "I'm not interested" response when something goes wrong?
I'd far rather pay a little more from a reputable company who actually places some value on customer service and after sales support.
You, of course, may feel differently.
I would beg to differ and that's the only store I've ever dealt with.
When was this? I know the changed management the last time I was there but I find it quicker to go to Esquire and Mitabyte now.
