Well have a look at the system i am looking to build in the next month and a half. Its about half way down in the threads(Final PC spec). There are quite a few thing you can change but it should get close to the price you mentioned.(prob a bit over).

Core 2 Quad 6600
Gigabyte P35-DS3/P35-DS3R
8800GT 512Mb
2048MB DDR2 800/1066
500GB HDD or 2 x 250 Raid 1/0

:D :) :p

glordit im with you all the way man

cept for the 500 gig raid 0,

rather buy 2 80 gig hdd's set in raid zero and buy a sep 250 gig for storage

also considering how cheap ram is, you could get 4 gig if your budget allows

Well my brother is getting a gaming PC for R9500.
Specs:
Mobo: Asus P5KPL
Processor: E6750
Ram: 2 x 1GB OCZ
Graphics Card: Asus 8800GT 512mb
PSU: Huntkey 500Watt
Case: Aerocool ZeroDegree
HDD: WesternDigital 320gb (I think)
Optical Drive: Asus Lightscribe (something or other) DVD-RW

+ Razer Diamondback Mouse and Logitech Media Elite Keyboard

This is Capetown which is generally more expensive than a lot of areas. This is meant to be quite a good PC when it comes to gaming but you might want to get the Q6600 as you will be ensuring your computer for the future.

Also I would suggest getting a 700W or over PSU now incase later you would want to add another graphics card. It would save you money instead of getting it later.

There are a lot of 600w rated Sli PSU's. A 700W PSU is gonna cost quite a bundle and will def push his R10k budget over.

hmmm...but if he getting a 8800GT and would want another 8800GT later on, those two in SLi would require a minimum 700W (well at least thats what Nvidia recommends). But sorry my point was to rather invest on a couple hundred extra now than to buy a whole new one later.

I agree with this point. Rather get a proper PSU now, and it will last for years. PC power requirements go up by the year and when you upgrade later you don't need to worry about the PSU

I agree you must get a proper PSU but sometimes actual PSU requirements are a lot less than we are led to believe.
Check this out.

But all that said getting a well rated stable PSU is definately advised. And we don't even know if he would want to go Sli? Im definately not a fan.

No that price is just about right. Minus the 160Gb and with no case or monitor of course. :p

Did you buy it retail?

That is some seriously good prices

Q6600, MB, 4GB RAM, 160GB + 320GB HDD, Case & PSU, 8800GT - The closest i can calculate on prices i know is R9 600 for the lot....
