We have had water restrictions in place for around 3 years and the average level of the dams in our area was around 32% last week.

With the steady rainfall in the catchments areas (and elsewhere!!) our dams have been filling nicely.

Yesterday morning the average was 46.12%

Dam: Capacity - Volume of water (Megalitres)

Kouga - 57,2% - 73 504
Churchill - 40,3% - 14 315
Impofu - 26,0% - 25 470
Loerie - 100% - 3 024
Groendal - 100% - 11 645

Updated as of this morning: Average of 65.1% - an increase of 19% or 52 716Ml overnight!

Dam: Capacity - Volume of water (Megalitres)

Kouga - 83,8% - 107 722
Churchill - 56,1% - 19 929
Impofu - 38,2% - 37 458
Loerie - 100% - 3 919
Groendal - 100% - 11 645

This is REALLY good news for our area and even better news is that more water is expected to flow into the Impofu Dam over the next few days.

I posted some links earlier today about your area and SA in general and trust me we are not going to go thirsty :D

Awesome... :D

Maybe I can actually come and visit your part of the world now :p

If it's over 60% they should be lifting the restrictions soon, right?

thats pretty good news for you P.E 'ers...lets hope for more rain!

We should see some improvement over the weekend with the dams still filling.
And let hope this lifts the water restrictions soon.
Luckily for me i just fixed my roof last week & no more leaks :)

Well, I read on monday, when levels were around 40%, that they were going to consider lifting restrictions at the end of the month. So, ja, at 60% they'd pretty much have to.

The "decision level" was always 50%. They promised this to us when they initially imposed the restrictions.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be enforcing water restrictions from Monday, 12 October 2009, in the light of water shortages as a result of low dam levels in the catchment areas.

Currently the Municipality’s supply dams (at 54,3%) only have enough water for another 11 to 12 months which place the city in a critical predicament.

In addition to the restrictions, tariff increases will also come into effect from November 1, 2009 as per the underpinned notices that read as follows:

So the levels were at 54% and decreasing when they imposed the restrictions...

I’m happy for you (really). Having no water sucks.

Thanks; the interesting part is going to be whether the Metro will drop the higher water tariffs as well. When water restrictions were imposed the Metro increased the prices as well implementing a stepped tariff system.

MickeyD, i doubt it. They so in debt its become part of there income now.
They will find a way to justify it or just say it will stay as is.
You should know how the metro works by now.

Not a chance that they will drop the tarriffs.... like IceQB mentioned, they've gotten used to it now.
