So kudos to Access management if they succeed.
Well Access have been trying to use the stadium for just about everything & not concentrating on sports events alone.
I think thats what makes them so successful thus far.
Lets hope they keep it up.

In some way or another PE needed a stadium. The Boet Erasmus Stadium was long past it "Use By" date. That it was expensive and that not everything has gone according to what was promised, I concur and have expressed my feelings about it here on numerous occasions.
If you want to complain about the real big white elephants, then focus on the Peter Mokaba, Cape Town, Mbombela, Soccer City and Moses Mabhida Stadiums.

Let's face it , they don't have a venue in Maritzburg to host these types of games. In the past they have had to play away in DBN. I know it's still the same province but it's 100 km away from their fans. As for Cosmos I don't even think they have a home of their own or fans for that matter...

Actually none of the WC stadiums will be profitable in the short term. 2-3 Billion rand is a huge capital investment. Add the ongoing maintenance costs to those figures and you have a very long way to go before you can even break even let alone turn a profit.
As TJ99 has shown, even optimistically it's hundreds of years at the current rates of revenue. These stadiums are giant boondoggles.

That's because the guys at Access shot themselves in the foot. They had Bay United right here, but didn't offer them a stadium deal. Now that they have left they end up payng teams to play here. I'm glad for the games, but would rather have a PE team based at the stadium.

Did you ever see the attendance at a Bay United match? It was shockingly poor and the low numbers would have been even more evident in the NMB Stadium. Contrast that with the crowds big ticket matches like the Pirates and Chief's drew. I think the PSL matches we're getting (six?) will be more lucrative.
Exactly! Even if the whole R11m was profit and there were zero operating costs, it would take more than 218 years to pay off.. Then the actual operating costs are R21mil so in fact they made a 10 million rand loss even before taking capital costs into consideration. If anyone thinks that's "successful", I have an excellent investment proposal for you

Not to be rude, but EP Kings matches in NMB Stadium don't exactly draw a big crowd. Bay United drew a small crowd at the Gelvandale Stadium, but a move to NMB Stadium would have upped their attendance, in the same way that it has upped EP's. Also, when Bay United were in the PSL in 2008/09 they set the league attendance record that season, despite playing at the EPRU Stadium.
To answer your question, yes, I did see the poor crowd numbers at Gelvandale Stadium. I was a proud supporter and went to their home games.

Gelvandale Stadium is actually a very nice stadium, revamped for the SWC. Even for the last playoff match that stadium wasn't even half full and that's a stadium with a capacity of 3000!
Pity they're not in the PSL any longer.

It's all about location. As you rightfully said Bwana, PE needed a new stadium. The other not so productive places didn't. That is the problem I see with it.
It's an old part of the city. However in the past year there as been a lot of improvements in the area with residents patching up their houses.
I stay around 500 meters from the stadium and my family owns a restaurant around 200 meters away from the stadium. We have never had an issue with crime in the area and I been living here for the past 5 years. Even though it seems like a run down part of the city, the restaurant my family owns is usually fully booked weeks in advance. (This was happening before the stadium was there btw)
So the area is not as bad as it seems.
