Peace conference postponed

LOL... the ANC's way of saying... we screwed up... so we are putting it on hold until we can fix our mess! :D
 
Fail. Nice going government. Now all eyes are on SA for being an anti-Peace chinese doormat instead of the World Cup host.

Hey, it's a damn side better than their normal strategy.

Normally they refuse to recognise their error, and just blast ahead regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Durban II was redeemed, so hopefully this conference will be too.
 
But the chinese are thanking everybody that does not include Tibet....
 
Fer sure, China is a big contributor to the ANC. This has nothing to do with the country or the 2010 thing. It is between the ANC and the Chinese. But as the ANC seems to think it can ram most things through, it thought it could this too. Or more likely, did not even think of the fall out. Pressure can and still works.

It is crucial to distinguish between the ruling party and the government as a structure.
 
Why is crucial? I can't think of the reason for saying this. What am I missing?

Equating the interests of a single political party with the interests of state and the population at large is undemocratic. It allows very little room for dissent.

Even a fairly democratic party, like the ANC, isn't structured to be as democratic as the state structure itself. You can be fired from a political party for holding views which are fundamentally at odds with the official party line. You can't be turfed out of Parliament for the same - you can only get kicked out if the voters loose faith in you. (Or if you're a criminal, but that provision seems to be a bit lax in South Africa too.)

Even if a political party doesn't actively purge its own ranks of dissent, it sure as hell isn't going to put dissenters on the list for Parliament, or on the list for provincial government. The state structure, however, allows for a person of essentially any views to be elected, if they have support.

when it is convinient to do so that is.

Cut the chaff out, it is the ANC through and through as they overule everything, everywhere, rightly or wrongly.
The people will wake up one day, as they have done up north.
 
If the conference does get under way sometime it would be fitiing if our Gripens do a flyover
