Does anyone know of, or have been affected by the peering issues between SAIX and other providers.

So far I know of around 40 clients who are unable to browse or access particular ISP's and are seeing speeds at 1kbps, whilst remainder of their connectivity seems unaffected.

One of the ISP's experiencing issues is MWEB, who claim that the issue relates to a test that SAIX are conducting and that their two 1GB links are completely saturated.

That's the first I hear of it. Doesn't sound like Telkom to test peering links at 1Gbps. In fact, as far as I know, Telkom like to run their links at max of 60% and then upgrade or add more links.

there's a first for everything

Do you have info about any of the sites having issues? Or which other ISPs are affected?

mail3.zadns.co.za on ports 110, 143, 25, 90 and 443.
Other servers affected aswell, and from multiple clients

Tested Fine using tcptraceroute from Neotel, Mweb, SAIX, Afrihost
tcptraceroute mail3.zadns.co.za 110

traceroutes on our side show the same, extremely low and acceptable response times, how ever when connecting to the server and downloading mail outlook reports 3 hours for a 2.5mb file.

Speedtests via speedtest.net show 1kbps connection to the same servers.

Theres shaping in place that seems to have gone haywire or been incorrectly captured and set to 1KPBS rather than say 10 KBPS.

they have been kicking off 8ta news server users for a while now. sometimes you can access the news server and then other times theres nothing. luck of the draw.

Telkom SA and MWeb peering

Agreed.

From my Telkom DSL and Telkom internet account I get large amounts of packet-loss to MWeb hosted servers, especially when using large ping packets:

A server hosted at MWeb:

--- 41.86.113.70 ping statistics --- (1500 byte packet size)
10 packets transmitted, 6 received, 40% packet loss, time 9008ms

A server hosted at Hetzner:

--- 41.203.23.117 ping statistics --- (1500 byte packet size)
10 packets transmitted, 10 received, 0% packet loss, time 9011ms

I'm only seeing this on Telkom ADSL (and Telkom as ISP). When I use IS as ISP, the packet-loss drops to 0%, ditto for tests from other servers to MWeb. The problem seems to exist between MWeb<-->Telkom SA ISP.

Would anyone be able to help with a contact at SAIX.

Pulling my ****en hair out - 3 days and still no luck or updates on the Fault which was reported on Monday apart from "Software engineers are investigating the issue"

For now all I have is this

The issue has been escalated to SAIX and the following feedback was received from our Broadband Account Manager:

Networks have confirmed the peering link is definitely congested.

Added to this, Vodacom and other SAIX peering clients are down as well.

This issue is beyond our control; however all effort is being applied to have this escalated and attended to. Our agents will continue to provide you with feedback as it comes through from the SAIX.
