I read an article in the You magazine yesterday about a botched circumcision. Long story short (I can’t find a link) is that a woman’s 5 year old “needed” (nothing too serious, foreskin couldn’t retract as it should) a circumcision, she took him to a state hospital & they “burned off” his penis. It is hectic! I can’t imagine what that mother must be going through. How do you explain to your child why is he different to other boys? And what major emotional damage is that poor child going to suffer?

Horrid IMO. I wanted to circumcise my son when he was born but thank God, I changed my mind. I know what happened was “freak negligence” (not an accident, the doctor was negligent ) & not the norm but still. After much research I felt it better to “leave it as it is” and let it be his decision one day to be circumcised or not. It isn’t my place to make such a life changing / altering decision on behalf of my child.

Well done! :)

Now, regarding this story.....

There is a device that they use to burn off skin, its better than cutting because it seals the wound at the same time, heals faster.

Not sure what happened here

I'm glad you didnt! I think its a decision that someone has to make for themselves when they are older, if they want to have it done. I personally dont see any reason for it, I think its barbaric. Obviously in the case you posted, there was a medical reason he needed to have it done, and its a pity that it went badly. Why do they burn it though? I would have thought using a scalpel would be safer. Anyway...

I know they said circumcized men are 50% less likely to contract HIV, but I still dont think thats a good reason to be circumcized . If you are having sex, even if you are circumcized , you really should use a condom. A 50% chance is not a very high chance to not contract the disease, and in fact its irresponsible to tell men that circumcision affects transmission, because you really should be wearing a condom.

They used some type of chemical. They even had pictures in the magazine. It is quite hectic. The thing is I don't think it was really necessary, I remember reading in some parenting magazine that a you should not force the foreskin when cleaning your young child as it can hurt them badly and is not necessary. Once they are older & "play" (ie masturbate) with it the foreskin naturally "loosens" etc

Ah, exactly what Mybb needs - a woman teaching guys about foreskins :D

Glad you decided NOT to cut off a part of your child - all people should have the right to decide whether they would like to keep their foreskin / clitoris / etc

one should not chop off a persons body parts when the person is too young to decide :o

Hei, I was young once. I used to play with other men's lol ;)

I also played doctor doctor a few times back in the early 80's.

Didn't learn much though. :o

No!!! I was a good girl in the eighties... young and very, very innocent. This was in the early twenty first century. I started late

Yeah well I started, and back then it was all fun and exploration. Then I stopped for almost 2 decades before playing that game again, it it had a whole new meaning!
