Hopefully someone can give me some advise here.

I have a 830 Pentium D 3.0GHz CPU and an Intel D946GZIS motherboard. The CPU is not compatible with the motherboard or vice versa.

Now I would like to know what to drop and replace, should it be the motherboard to get a motherboard that is compatible with the Pentium D CPU or a Core 2 Duo that compatible with the motherboard. I also look at the 930 that is compatible with MB.

I'll appreciate your input.:D

this may sound callous, but how sure are you that the cpu isnt supported?
I note on intel's site they dont list the 830 as being supported, only the 820 and 805, but the difference between 820 and 830 is almost f*all, a higher multiplier (which the board should handle as the 805 is a x20 part) and the fact that the 830 supports EIST.

Personally, I would fit them together and try (unless you have already done that)

If it really really doesnt work, then I wouldnt spend too much money on the project....a cheap motherboard will do the job nicely...it wont be worth it to go for the 930 cpu, not much difference between that and what you already have to jusitfy the expenditure (I'm assuming a new cpu is more than a new mb)

That said, the e6300 does work with your mobo, and will easily outpace the pentium d cpu's you mentioned, so for me that is by far the best choice, and you will also benefit from the cooler running of the core2duo cpu.

Summary: try the 830, if it works, good...if not, try get a 930 free of charge, or a new mobo free of charge (hehehehe)...if not, then get the e6300 as they are relatively cheap for the performance you are getting and you will be bang up to date and fast as hell.

Thanks guys
The 830 is for 945/955 chipset and I've tested it, it does not post on the 946 board. Intel does say that it supports the 945 but only the 3.4GHz not the 3GHz.

I also thought to change to the E6300 / E6400 when stock are avail. at the suppliers.

through them all in the bin

amd

its still not confirmed how good conroe is against amd in game

does intel still have both north and south bridge on the m/b?

because thats a major flaw

ya ya

lol

maybe if ppl didnt conroe for a few months intel would drop the price because they way to expensive as per usual

I would be interested in getting one, if it were not due to the motherboards being so expensive, cos I would want to get the e6300, and overclock it to it's safest max.
I'll stick to me old 3200+, running like a beaut! :)

well, max R1000 I suppose, ..I know that won't get me anything, but in my mind that would be fair, ..but I know the good to excellent boards, are like R2k-R3k.
Cos with such a low multiplier, I would need a huge fsb headroom, and proven OC'ing ability.
My Foxconn Micro-ATX board cost under R500, and 3200+ under R700, and I'm running at 261x10, for 1013 CPU 3dMark06 marks.
To my mind that's a huge price-performance ratio.

Hey guys, can anyone confirm whether or not a Core 2 processor will work on my motherboard..which is an ASUS P5ND2-SLI Deluxe motherboard

It is LGA 775 but im really confused on what m-boards these processors work on. :o

Sorry, according to their website they dont, only P4's, Celerons and Pentium D's...

Ah...damn oh well...guess i'll just save up for a DX10 graphics card then cause i just bought this motherboard about 2 months ago
