Pentium V

There will be no pentium 5, Intel has dropped the moniker in favor of things like Core Duo and Core Solo (instead of Pentuim M) and will use something else for the upcoming Conroe (codename) core processors...

okay, i might be talking utter BS, but i was told about a week ago that intel cant name a processor "Pentium 5" because AMD has bought the rights to that name.

doesnt sound quite right:)

FWIW:

The Conroes will be be based on Intel's current Pentium-M processor which can in turn be referred to as a Pentium 3.5!

It's pipeline has more stages than a P3 but it's significantly shorter than the Net-burst (P4) range of processors. It is (imho) by far the best processor ever developed by Intel and the very fact that Intel is "reverting" back to it can be taken as Intel admitting that the whole P4 range was actually a failure. I'm sure you all know that the P4 is probably the most inefficient processor ever to see the light of day..

There is a very interesting read somewhere on the net that tells the whole story of the Pentium-M an the Israeli design team behind it. Well worth searching for if that's your cuppa tea! Just my 2c
