People on cellphone's while driving

Okay, this may be stupid but I have a huge problem with people, who are driving and looking down at their phones all the time.
I'm not a saint, I too have looked and look at my phone but I have actually tried to limit it as much as I can. Lately I can drive and not even pay attention to my phone until I get to my destination.

A friend of mine told me that he has been hooting at some people he sees on their phones while driving, I have somewhat adapted this, if I see a person on their phone while driving I hoot. The hooting may cause a scare which could result in bad results but at the same time people need to be responsible, just put the damn thing down or pull off to the side if you really need to look at your phone, it's appalling seeing the amount of people that think they can multitask like this.

Yesterday I hooted at Traffic officer as he was on his phone, shouted at him to get off his phone and he just sped off in his government owned performance car. And this really got me furious, if I was on my phone he would be so pissed, slap me with a ticket and would probably be violent.

I just want to know, I there anything the MyBB community could do? I know this won't go far but can someone more senior maybe approach mybroadband with an idea. I know it sounds impossible and stupid, I don't even know how to end this off...
 
I think all phones should get an auto-lockout while in motion function unless linked to a car via Bluetooth or plugged into the Infotainment system.

Although I guess that wouldn't help if the the threshold is too long to prevent it from activating while walking.

Hahahahaha, I don't know and I do confess to my own stupidity here, but it just angered me that a traffic officer is that ignorant, knows that he is wrong, doesn't put his phone down and speeds off.

I would actually say no one in a car should be looking at their phone while the car is in motion, pull over if you really want to look at your phone.

Your 12 year old in the back seat can't play angry birds while you drive to school?

It's actually an epidemic. I see it all the time while driving.
I religiously avoid my phone while driving.

But if you see a person driving like an idiot in front of you, chances are that person in on their cellphone.
Heck, I've even seen people texting with their phones in front of their faces while driving at 120Km/h on the highway.
 
Always puzzles me that people drive million rand cars without phone connect systems. Or are they just tech retards?

Leave everyone's phones alone, and make the cars as unsafe as they were 40 years ago. A couple of accidents (with no abs, no airbags, no crumple zones etc) will soon sort the wheat from the chaff.

Nope, that's me, and I have actually said I do and have looked at my phone too, I am no saint, but a person can't drive on the road with their head looking down every 2 seconds for 5 seconds, then back up again.

Nope. I believe it's the same as people generally are in all areas of their lives. Could give a **** about anyone else. The prevailing attitude appears to be "**** you jack, I'm doing me" and that's about where it ends.

Then you'd end up having to buy a dedicated GPS instead of being able to use your phone.

IOS has do not disturb while driving, which blocks incoming calls and messages, and Android Auto can dumb down the information available on the phone's screen to minimise distractions.
 
Riding the motorcycle everyday from Brakfontein to Sandton, I see a lot of this. Three incidents that stand out:
1. Saw a guy in an Aveo texting in morning traffic. He was so focused on his phone that the distance between him and the car in front of his was now over about 50meters. I rode alongside him for a bit and when he finally realised that there was another vehicle next to him he looked up. I just shook my head and carried on forward. This triggered of a different reaction - he actually sped up and tried to swerve into me. Totally unnecessary as my only action was to shake my head in disgust.
2. Guy in a range rover drifted into me. Luckily no damage, but he didn't even know that he had done so. I pulled up alongside and he was text, so I tapped the window and then tapped my helmet (universal sign for use your brain) and he started throwing his hands up and swearing me
3. I rode alongside a lady in a Mini for almost a minute while she was busy on facebook. I realised that she was so oblivious to her surroundings, so I tapped the window and she must've shat her pants with the scare that she got

Well there is nothing that says this mode couldn't still allow you certain function.

They could make iOS DND Driving mode just like Android Auto really.

Many years ago coming out of Cape Town I came up next to a chick in Merc drifting all over the place while fiddling on her phone.

Had the highly modified Buell at the time and I just revved at her and she got such a fright she just dropped the phone somewhere in the car which did indirectly solve the problem.
