PEP coining it on smartphone rentals

Pepkor's cellular business showed solid growth during the six months ended 31 March 2024, with revenue generated from cellular sales growing 8.8% to R1 billion.

The company also launched a new smartphone rental product — FoneYam — which had accumulated 202,000 sales by the end of March 2024.

And in the same vein Ellies is going under. Didn't Ellies have the whole rent to own model down for a while?

Not that I'm familiar with how FoneYam works, or why renting is a better idea than getting it on contract.
