Perceived quality.

Out of interest for the KIA fanbois, A chap tried to trade in a 3 year old Sorento on a new Forester last week, and I had to value it. I was horrified at the tattyness of the KIA in comparison with a Subaru of the same age. The KIA was literally falling apart at 150 000 km whereas the Subaru still looks new at that mileage. BCO you should actually take a shot of your actual car's interior at 125000 =- it still looks brand new to me.

My Outback 3.0R was still "as new" with 221000 k on the clock!
 
Yeah I think everyone is saying that cause of the class of car, the Polo is more of an entry level car then the Impreza, which shows you the resale value is not that high then for the Impreza if it is retailing for the same price as a Polo. But then again Tazz's are horribly overpriced too.

I understand what everyone's saying. I guess that I was expecting there to be more of an overlap in perceived quality between the class leader of the class below (the Polo) and the class clown of the class above (the Impreza).
 
Ah okay now I see where you coming from, imo I think that car manufacturers do this on purpose, take for example my 2005 Comfortline Polo vs my dads 2002 Comfortline Jetta he had, technically both comfortline but the quality was 20 gazillion times better. Even in my buddies 2005 Trendline Golf the interior is on par with mine.

Well that is clearly subjective, based on the owner's care of the car. Because we have a 2006 (2005 build) VW Polo 1.6 Comfortline. Friends of ours have a 2008 1.6 Comfortline.....Her interior is also falling apart and the car's paint is busy fading (car only get's cleaned when going for a service)...Ours in comparision looks practically brand new...
 
It's the blingy silver plastic in the Scooby... I'll guarantee that's what drives 80% of motoring scribes to say something smarmy about Subarus' cabins. I'm also not fond of it, but most car enthusiasts know that Subarus are hewn from solide granite and will stand up to the worst any borderline sane owner can dish up.
 
Quality means nothing if its boring. A rock can be high quality granite - its still dead as a rock.

Here is a little example of high perceived quality VS enjoyment.

Makes you want to sleep :

Even if you look at both from the same angle in the same conditions, the top one with perceived quality is boring, sombre and uninspiring as a hell.
 
Precisely my point - the quality might not be perceived as high - but it does make you want to drive and feel alive.

These days cars are full of plastic. I have a close relative that wants to sell his 2005 Audi A4 2.0 because it is nearing the end of its motorplan. Sadly they only want to give him R135k at best so his options of what to buy next is limited. He had a look at Corsa and the first comment he made when he saw the interior was "as die ding aan die brand slaan brand dit tot krismis". Now coming from the level of quality and trim he was accustomed too this is understandable, although he did like the way it drove and felt like it wants to be driven.

So quality is not everything.
 
Neither of those interiors make me want to drive or make me feel alive...

They both look manky in my opinion.
 
I hate all this silver plastic they use in cars, it looks tacky and cheap. If it was brushed steel or aluminium it's fine but plastic, yuck!

Agreed, although Japanese shiny plastic still beats Korean faux wood. We had a SsangYong Musso when I still stayed with my folks. The car never set a foot wrong, but man... that wood grain is something to behold :sick:
