Curious if anyone has had this type of blind installed?

Finishing up my renovation and a detail I overlooked when choosing my windows was the blinds I'd be using. With the tilt & turn windows I have installed they open inwards and slightly past the wall so installing blinds in the window recess isn't an option. I could do them outside the recess on the wall but I'd wouldn't really be able to have the blinds and the window open at the same time.

Thankfully some smart people have figured this out and you get blinds that fit directly on to the frames. I've got a couple quotes for these and they're quite pricey but I also really like the look. I wanted to motorise them but the cost of the motors is more than the blinds themselves and just doesn't make any sense.

It seems the only supplier of these locally is the Louvolite brand through Blind Designs (they seem to distribute to all the local blinds places).

My question is does anyone know any other supplier that has different options, apart from Louvolite? Nothing wrong with them in particular (they're nice) but wouldn't mind having some options.

The blinds look this:

Previously got blinds from these guys....https://www.blindsdirect.co.za/product-category/ready-made-blinds

Don't specifically see this type but might just not be catching the right name, but worth reaching out and asking.

They have a factory in Cape Town.

This looks like what they refer to as "honeycomb" blinds. I'm just not sure how the mounting system would differ directly on a window.

How do you operate them with that picture of yours? There's no cord anywhere? Seems a bit like photoshop bullshit. Literally looks like they are just magically held there with some opaque tape.

Thanks, I did check them out. Those honeycomb ones only show the traditional mounting options.

There is a little handle in the middle, you just pull them up and down which is a lot nicer than having the cords honestly (like a shutter). All the cords are internal and they're still there but you don't see them.

I tried them out at the Blind Guys showroom here in Table View.

Hmm just sounds like something that will require full replacement when it inevitably breaks.

I wonder if shutters wouldn't have made more sense, but probably a bit late for that now. Then you could have put the blinds on the "outside" for security and shade and kept the window inside, which is usually how these windows are setup.

It's not that much different to regular blinds, the cords should be serviceable but I suspect they may actually last longer as nothing is exposed to get manhandled.

The pictures on that site is horrible

It's not too late at this point as I haven't ordered anything yet. I looked at shutters briefly but they're just not as flexible for light control, with the blinds I can have them completely closed for privacy but still have light come in (I'm not doing blockouts).

The bedrooms will also probably get curtains (it creates a nice feel and can blockout light for sleep) and the living area is completely covered outside by an awning which prevents basically any directly sunlight coming in except in the very late afternoon.

Side note about tilt & turn, they're awesome for the windy west coast as I can have them tilted open and still get airflow through without everything in the room blowing away.

Well this is exactly why with that type of window I would go for a shutter instead (yes you can't open them all the way, but then I consider my blinds are almost never "open" and always just tiled so evaluate your current behaviour.

But with a fully opening window like that any normal blind is a nightmare, so a shutter would be the ideal.

Same with these, that's kind of the reason I'm looking at them. I can have the blinds fully closed but still have the windows open.

I will rarely have the windows fully open and will most of the time just be in the tilt configuration unless it's a really calm day or I burnt something in the kitchen and need to air things out quickly. The openings are massive when they're fully open.

My blinds got installed today, very happy with how these look and work. Didn't go motorised because the motors cost way too much (more than the blinds) but the guys told me they're getting in new motors at some point this year that are cheaper and they can retrofit them if I want.

Looks nice and neat.
They are very slick. The installer was also great, he was very informed about the product and had a great attention to detail - he came in solo to install them because he wanted to make sure it was done right. Was still pretty quick, as they're not that tricky to install.

If you in the Table View / Blouberg area, I can recommend Berno from Blind Guys Blouberg.

Thanks so much for the recommendation, that is very helpful. Would you mind disclosing how much the cost was in the end?
