Persistent audio streaming - how dey do dat?

The following sites:

www.jango.com
www.hypem.com

all feature persistent streaming - ie the audio plays across page loads.
it looks like hype machine does it by an ajax load into the main page while keeping the player in place
jango is built on rails, but it doesn't look like they do an ajax page load...
any ideas?

on second thought... the url doesn't change, so it's full page ajax reload in both cases.
that's a bit crazy...
