Hi guys,
i have been pulling my hair out over this one, so finally posting this in desperation.
Basically I have a loud crackling noice on my telkom adsl line. This prevents me from using the telephone line for voice calls, and my adsl line drops the whole time. Btw, the noise is not always equally bad.
I'm with web africa, and they have gotten telkom out here more than 3 times. They have apparently checked at the switch and put me on the good line. Ofcourse the last time the guy was here (unfortunately I'm always at work at these times), the line quality was better. But he said is must be the router. Well, was on my way to buy the new router, I disconnected the router completely and the noise was still there, so don't believe it can be that.
Here's the setup: I have 2 phone points in my house (same phone line). Also have alarm. The router, modem and phone is connected on the one line, and fax machine on the other (usually switched off). Have filters on both lines.
Modem is the Telkom MEGA 100WR. Have tried to remove filters, and add filters, and even bought new filters. Have disconnected the alarm, and router and both. When I remove the filters I can hear modem like sounds, with filters they're gone.
But the crackling remains. Aaargh.
Please help!
Not sure if this will help, but here are my router's modem statistics:
