Personal / Home Budgeting Software

I'd recommend Pastel My Money.

Howsit. So trying this out but I cant seem to load my income and expenses right after importing my statements. It doesn't seem to pick up my salary as an income because it comes in before the 1st. Do you know a way to adjust the budget date range? so from pay day to pay day. Otherwise I need to update all the transactions between payday and 1st to be the 1st.

It seems it always work in calendar months, so you will have to change the date of your salary.
I have set all my debit orders and monthly payments to be paid between the 1st and 3rd and I just adjust my salary from the date it was paid to the 1st of the next month. This allows me to see exactly what is left for the month (income less expenses).

I use 22seven.co.za

It logs into my bank account/pension fund/savings account/edgars/woolies etc and consolidates and categorizes everything automatically with a few exceptions that's easy to define. It works out your average spend/income etc and you can setup budget limits. It also auto updates and comes with a mobile app.

All for free. And you can quickly track changes in expenses and/or unnecessary expenses. This saves me about R200 a month on stuff I was paying but never needed. And helps me keep myself in check when going out/buying unnecessary ****.

And I don't need to capture a thing

I quite like the 22seven app too. And it even links with my stockbroker accounts so I can see how my investments are doing at the same time :)

Just curious, I've never used financial software, I use excel for my budget, why is excel not good enough ?

Excel doesn't automatically put money into your account when you have spent it all on unnecessary stuff :)

I use this : http://www.youneedabudget.com/ . Perfect for personal use with an interesting "philosophy" on how to manage your budget . MS Money and Quicken is basically just a personal accounting type software without really giving you any "guidance" . Ynab adds pointers and goals on what to do after you got all your data set up.

Just downloaded the trial version. Been thinking about it for a while. Looks pretty good thus far. I will most probably use it this month and then wait for a steam sale to buy the full version.

Cheers

Really nice except that it has no way of handling manual entries, so it can't do cash. :(

YNAB is the shizniz! Two thumbs up from me. I'll probably use this in connection with somthing like ms money.

I use http://www.nedbank.co.za/website/content/personalmoneymanager/ , free for nedbank clients. Can do all of the above, the only downside is it does not import statements from another bank.

I don't have nedbank account but I use this from nedbank, free for everyone. You can add other bank's accounts, edgars, satrix etc.
https://myfinanciallife.nedsecure.co.za/

It classifies home loans automatically so pretty sure it will do it for car loan as well. You can configure it if it doesnt and it will remember it next time onwards.
