I am looking at getting a personalised number plate done here in Joburg and wanted to know if any of you have done so recently. What is the process and how much does it cost?

Thanks.

www.plates.co.za is the only route i know for JHB - I know here in CT you can get them at the traffic dept for a fraction of the price on that website, maybe JHB is the same - check there website - JHB traffic etc that is

The process is that people will think you are a complete ****er. Just don't do it.

I'd only do it for marketing - i.e. put my company name on it. For anything else, I'd rather tattoo something unsavoury on my forehead.

I don't see what the big deal is about personalized number plates. In my opinion its like having custom rims or a body kit. Just differentiates your car. Whats the big deal?

Haha yeah thanks for the comments. I was merely thinking about it but I am convinced... Douche move.

Will just get normal plates.

Plus i save on around R2k.

I actually like them, some bring humor to the boredom of sitting traffic.

Yeh... its ok making your car look rice, and sound like the inside of a crap club, but personalised number plates are not on

... and then you have people who think R2000 odd is a lot of money....

If you want to brand your car for marketing purposes then do it properly with decals. At least then you can have your logo, full company name, contact details, etc put on your car.

Process:
1. Get fur on dashboard
2. Install spinner mags
3. Install neon lights under car

Now you're ready for the plate my mate!

Ag i have a plate on my bakkie, i dont think its lame and I like it - and no, i dont have fur on my dash board nor do i pull trains in brakpan with my bakkie lol

When I did mine a few years ago, I had to do it at the Dept of Transport in JHB city centre. It cost R2000 then. After that, you need to go to the licensing department to link the new plate with your car, and get your car licence issued.
