Diatomaceous Earth is a natural substance that dries out fleas and similar insects. So it is a pet friendly alternative to the usual can of doom. Care needs to be taken when applying it as inhalation is bad for you, but otherwise it looks like a good product.

Does anyone know where I can source this in SA, preferably Cape Town?

Just use "Die Flea" - that you can get a Pick n Pay for R17 - had a flea problem at home. But if you are concerned about eco friendly then just get dome Khaki bos spray from you nearest health store. Its about R50. I find it worked great on the beds and spraying my little monster when he goes to sleep.

You should be able to get it at the bigger pool shops. The old pool filters used diatomaceous earth in their filters. My dad still uses it in his pool and gets a supply from the local pool store

My main concern is poisoning the cats, so if there are any chemicals in Die Flea then I'll have to pass. We have a large cat play toy with carpet covering that I need to dose as well so the Khaki bos spray sounds like a better bet.

I specifically read something that said the pool version has additional ingredients that are not human / pet friendly. Thanks for the info though. :)

The Ecostuff link doesn't open for me. I am also looking to source Diatomaceaous Earth.

Borax works well too, sprinkle it on your carpets, they're gone within 3 days

Borax can be yes, but if applied correctly, I doubt the cats will go licking the carpets....

Sprinkle it into the carpets, and walk over it.

It's only hazardous if you inhale it....but you'd have to inhale quite a bit for it to be remotely deadly
