Peter Boyd joined Virgin Mobile South Africa as the Chief Executive Officer at the beginning of December 2006. Before that he served as Virgin Mobile USA vice president of promotions and partnerships. In that role, Boyd coordinated the wireless upstart’s promotional and channel marketing efforts, including the execution of special events, sponsorship initiatives and partnership opportunities. He also focused on helping the company tightly integrate promotions and partnerships across other key disciplines.
Peter, who has spent several years in the “Virgin family,” has an intimate knowledge of, and passion for the brand. Before joining Virgin Mobile USA, he served as commercial director and later managing director of Virgin D3, a UK-based youth marketing company with a 1,000-strong student field marketing force and the top UK student Web site. Boyd was an integral part of the company’s expansion, helping drive his team to impressive financial growth.
Peter began his Virgin career at Virgin Cola UK, first as brand manager and ultimately as head of marketing. In the latter role, he oversaw a range of functions including brand management, promotions, design, sponsorships and Web site content. His leadership helped significantly grow the business in an otherwise flat market, while his creative direction helped earn the UK Drinks Industry’s award for “Best Soft Drinks Press and TV Campaign.”
Prior to joining Virgin, Boyd worked internationally as a business consultant for McKinsey & Co., serving the retail, industrial, insurance and public sectors across the UK, South Africa and India. He holds an Honours and Bachelor degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.
