Mr. Peter S. Klein has been the Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft Corporation since November 24, 2009. Mr. Klein has been the Chief Financial Officer of Business Division at Microsoft Corporation since January 2006 and serves as its Corporate Vice President.
Mr. Klein oversees the financial performance of the two business groups that comprise the Business Division: Information Worker and Business Solutions. Mr. Klein served as the Head of Finance of Microsoft Corp. Before joining the MBD Division in February 2006, Mr. Klein served as the Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft's Server & Tools Business Group (STB) where he was responsible for overall financial management including financial and strategic planning, reporting and analysis as well as communications to the investment community.
Mr. Klein led the finance team for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2002, he spent 13 years in corporate finance in the Seattle area, primarily in the communications and technology sectors. This includes 4 years at McCaw Cellular Communications, where he helped drive the planning and implementation of the nationwide digital cellular network. He moved to Orca Bay Capital after McCaw was sold to AT&T, and for three years he managed a portfolio of public and private equity, debt and real property.
Subsequently, Mr. Klein was in finance management at several startup companies, including Chief Financial Officer at Asta Networks and Vice President and Treasurer at Homegrocer.com. At Homegrocer.com, he helped lead an IPO and subsequent acquisition by Webvan. Mr. Klein holds a Bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Washington.
