Petrol going up again tonight

The problem with fuel rests squarely on Trevor Manuel's shoulders. He taxes and taxes this product like it is non-essential. Oh how I wish for an electric car that would blow a hole in the government coffers.
 
They'd start taxing electricity (if they dont already) and if you power it with solar they'd tax the panels more too (as if they dont already get VAT on the tires and solar panels and the car and what not)...

What exactly do you mean by "this kind of logic"? It's pretty obvious that you make a small saving.
 
I agree with you .geek. The rich don't get rich by throwing their money away. Even if all you save is R5, rather in your pocket then theirs!!!
 
How does Sasol justify charging the same price??

Aaah... yes... major shareholder is government

They are basically not allowed to. If I was them I would be happy, more profit for me when my costs for producing Synfuels are less than crude oil related production. And I'm protected if crude oil is cheaper.

It's just a regulated f@#cking of consumers by the government.

Without all the other taxes etc which are added by government the Basic Fuel Price is made up of:

International spot market prices - OK so I guess if the rest of the oil cartel are charging $68 a barrel then so can Sasol (supply and demand - but not very proudly south african of them)
Freight cost to bring fuel to SA - ??? Sasol's is already here
Insurance costs - last time I looked a business was responsible for their own insurance. In any case Sasols insurance cost would be far lower than for transport of international oil.
Ocean loss allowance - ??? Sasol - OFS - Ocean???
Cargo Dues(national ports authority tariffs) - see previous point???
Coastal storage - ??? as before ???
 
Sasol doesn't produce nearly enough petrol for the entire SA. We still have to import 90% of the petrol we use...

agreed but !!! why should they be protected with this price regulations ... :confused: government owns Sasol maybe ?? == mega bucks for them == Telkom Scam ... !! Proudly Ripping South Africans off since 19voetsek :sick:

So then why does Sasol Export? They seem to be very proud of the fact that they export to 8 other African countries. (As per Sasol.co.za)
