Has anyone got some history regarding the Oil Price/Exchange rate.I would love to know when the last time that the oil price/Exchange rate was similar to Today. What was the Petrol Price then.I would bet it was much, much cheaper than it is now.

Factor in inflation... Before the big price hike the last few months, the price of oil has been the same. Go back a few decades into the 70's, we actually have cheaper oil today.

The oil price went up to $150 in 07/08 before the big crash. Petrol price went just under R10, cheaper than now yes but not 'much much' so OP loses the bet.

In the intervening years, taxes and other levies on petrol have gone up yearly. That's why at the comparatively lower oil price the price of fuel is higher.

Be more specific. The entire R9.89 we pay per liter goes to the ANC?

Obviously not, that is like asking if high earners give all their money to the ANC, they don't but they give a crap load to them.

I wonder what amount is just purely ANC takings? How much does the road accident fund take i wonder? I recall a story of some european guy who got a sick amount of money for an accident, something like 500 million rand.

Well I was addressing killadoob more, I have given up on people like BrokenLink a long time ago. I know that ANC is not the cleanest party in SA, but to blame them for everything that happens in this country is insane. Theres only so much the government can do about the oil price.

From what I looked up on, OPECs take is about 50% of the cost (i.e. the actual price of petrol).

We could always stop the RAF, and ask every licensed driver on the road to be insured. Well not stop the RAF, but need a considerably smaller piece of the barrel pie.

It was a Belgian business man as I recall, and he claimed under the lost earnings section of the RAF, more to illustrate a point than anything, and damn near bankrupted the fund in the process. I remember there being mention that he wasn't going to keep the money & would donate it to development funds or charities or something, but he'd wanted to show the RAF there was a problem with how the claims eligibility, or how they worked out compensation was structured or something.
