Petrol Price Shocker

With the Rand mostly above R10 for the past couple of weeks where else could it go..... Don't see how this could be a shocker for anybody, writing was on the wall for more than a month already

Yeah, this isn't a shocker, more of a shafter...

Thank goodness I work 4km from home and have the option to work from home unless there is meeting etc.
But still, won't be that way forever, just a few years ago was travelling 50KM to work and the fuel bill hurt like hell back then.

Not to mention the price of EVERYTHING going up due to the fuel price.

With out trying to sound negative but how is the Rand going to fundamentally get stronger? I still think Forreigners have yet to pull their porfolio flows out of the JSE etc

Well, we knew this was coming with the Rand falling the way it has. Not likely to get any better soon until the striking stops..

Our government can boost the Rand back to the R9 levels easily, if not even to the R8/R7 levels just by sitting down and telling the world that the buck stops here... from now on the country will follow the following policies.... and then announce sound economic policies (which we already have but which is being ignored as not to sour relations with their partners i.e. SACP etc..).

That tied to immediate and decisive actions will give our country a boost like no other. Not a matter of 'from next year we will blah blah' but rather 'as from today we will...' and then do so.

The world is looking for places to invest and overall we are economically sound but very uncertain. If they can pull their heads out of their **** and show the world that there is nothing to be 'uncertain' about things can turn around overnight.

PROBLEM: Decisive and immediate action will be required. We are way past the point where people will believe any speech that comes out of government. We have heard it all before. Time to walk the talk....

I'll be the troll and say most people can absorb a lot of the latest increases by changing their driving styles.

You don't think they've perhaps changed their style after any of the previous major hikes?

Or is there a new, new style you're proposing? Perhaps called cycling/walking?

Really?

How else do you want me to drive?

After fuel hit R10 per litre I started driving very conservatively, I can't do anymore without NOT driving at all.

You tyres being pumped slightly harder (at say the "full load pressure", but note that ride is slightly harsher and braking distance is more) and your car being polished will increase efficiency.

Honestly, no. Every single day I drive to work and back, most people see how quickly they can get from traffic light to traffic light. Speeds up behind me, overtakes, stops in front of me at next traffic light. I'm not saying do 60 on the highway in the right hand lane, but at least keep to a speed and not slam on the brakes and speed up constantly.

:)

Then you're an exception. When driving today, look at how other people drive, then come back and tell me they drive conservatively.
