On the rest you have a point, but we still have some of the lowest taxes in the world on petrol & Diesel.

Well, the purpose for the massive taxes in other countries is to stimulate use of their public transport systems and to lower their dependence on oil... something we cannot do here as there is no reliable safe transport system capable of transporting the major populace on oil independent transport.

Some countries (developing countries like SA is continuously labelled mind you) are actually doing something about it.
