I would consider a non "sports" car with those figures, but the fact is that car will have been put through its moer...I would stay away personally.

I was looking at - the racing part is actually the draw back as it properly HAS had the ****e driven out of it as mentioned above :'( - stigma doesnt bother me too much - car will be a 1 - 2 year throw away

43k for a 2 year throw away is high...
Should be able to get a 3 series BMW for similar price.
Or get something that you can sell again afterwards without loosing too much, like a toyota...

That's very expensive.
With a related (then) price: a 406 3.0 automatic goes for R40'000 and it has around 150k on the clock.

I sold my Peugeot last year (2000 model) after it started giving endless issues. It used to be a nice car but their mechanics are useless - they need people that know how to service Peugeots.

As another reference point... I blew a head gasket. The replacement quote was 15k.

In short, stay away.
