PG Autoglass are dodgy as F$%k.
I suppose this isn't news.
Anyhow had to replace the car windscreen, insurance said it would be R2200 and my excess 25% so I was cool. They said to contact PG which I did, PG said they don't have it in stock, will call when it arrives.
The day arrives, they call and go windscreen is here, the excess is R4000.00 - I go WTF - they said yeah, it cost R16,000.00.
Anyhow they were told to **** off.
Contacted the insurance who said the initial quote was an estimate, if I can find it cheaper they will sort it out so got hold of BSG - they came here and fitted - overall price including fitment was R1600.00 (R1200.00 if you go to them) and my excess R400.00.

How does this make PG dodgy?

Expensive, sure, but dodgy? They don't appear from your story to have done anything underhanded.

What car BTW?

For what car and year model is this?

I'm sure the insurance didn't thumb suck the original R2200.00 they quoted?

If company B can supply and fit for R1,200.00 you don't find the R16,000.00 dodgy?

More a recommendation but if in the Cape Town region, you can try Kaizen Autoglass in the future. We've had them for our fleet vehicles and they come to you to replace the glass.

Also they handle the excess, at least I assume they do since we have never received a bill from either them or our insurance.

No, I don't find it dodgy. I find it expensive, but certainly not underhanded or snaeky like they said price Rx and then fitted a windscreen and charged price Ry. That would have been dodgy.

Erm but thats exactly what they did - they first told the insurance it would be around R2200 and then erm nope R16,000. So you don't find that dodgy??? Ok well then, we will have to disagree.

So, they quoted you, you had it fitted and then they jacked the price? That's not in the original post.

Erm yes it in the original post and no they didn't get to fit it because their price jumped from the quoted R2200 to R16,000.00

If you find that normal and not dodgy then cool, we disagree.

I find it dodgy that PG offers a product for R16,000 that someone else is doing for R1200.00 (That's R14,800 less if you struggle with math), so yeah my opinion is they dodgy, yours is meh, they just a tad expensive.

If you get quoted R2200 and then get told on fitment day erm nope its R16,000 you going to go oh ok, no worries here is the extra R14,800......sure.

It's called a free market.

Technically its called an idiot market. That is how these stupid places profit and thrive. Same as a dealer. Seal that costs R1 or less to manufacter sold for R500.
Yeah, but you vote with your wallet. It's not a dodgy or dishonest business practice to charge more (or less) than your competitors.

Regarding the quoted price, it seems like the OP's gripe should be with his insurer, not the supplier.

Been asked multiple times what car, keeps on ignoring. Why start a thread if you're not prepared to give details?

Maybe PG sourced an official manufactures windscreen vs some cheaper option.

Dodgy = lack of integrity in my opinion. Charging 100s of times what a product costs you to make shows a general lack of integrity and greed. So in my books, dodgy as ****.

Concerning the OP, he was QUOTED. They should have got the correct price to start with. Not spring it on him on the day he goes for fitment. And you know what, that is why I say these places thrive. Majority of idiot people will just pay it. I am sure they catch many a idiot customer this way. Especially the ladies who are not to clued up on cars and the fact that other options exist. People at PG Glass will BS them by saying their windscreens are the best and other cheaper ones are dangerous.

Let the buyer beware as they say.
