Phasing out of qualifications

Courses like Btech, N Diplomas and some degrees are being phased out. Meaning they will no longer be available in some institutions. So in the near future does that mean there won't be job posts that require N Diplomas, BTech etc?

Things would continue pretty much as usual. Job adverts would be modified as required. ND and Btech are still recognised qualifications.

Unless you have a diploma in something like VHS recorder repairman, your qualification should still be relevant.

I don't think my ND got me a single job ever. My N6 got me an apprenticeship though and that experience helped with jobs.

By the time people stop posting for these qualifications you should have the relevant and up to date experience to trump it anyway. A qualification is effectively just a foundation of learning to base the skills and experience you will gain when you're in the working world. If you every think this will become irrelevant try removing the foundation of a house, either new or old, and see what happens. Anything learned is never irrelevant.

Theoretically BTech should already be phased out by now. It's been replaced with an advanced diploma. I know there is also a new 3 year BEng Tech qualification that has been introduced but only UJ currently offers it. As for what happens to those who have a BTech I don't think much would change, it's still a recognised qualification and will remain so.

I guess you will start seeing less 'BTech' in job postings over time as the industry moves to update itself. In my personal opinion I think 'advanced diploma' just sounds worse than 'BTech'. Also there are many of these "fly by night" 'engineering' schools springing up who are offering low quality diplomas, certifications. I would say to any aspiring engineer in SA, bypass all the diplomas/certs and just go straight for a BEng (tuks,stellies) or BSc(Eng) (UCT, Wits). That's just my take...
