This below 32gb Philips USB flash drive belongs to me...
This USB flash was in my shorts when I came home from a pissup one night 10 months ago...
This little device went undetected for full wash cycle in the English HO's washing machine....
This Moose was sad, but never threw it away, instead, I put it on the windowsill and left it alone for 300 days....

..... And guess what?

This afternoon , I plugged her in....and lo and behold, all my data was still there, copied it off, formatted and now she is as good as ever...

I was wondering how this was possible, how come it never bombed out?

There was no power applied while wet and most of the components are not susceptible to water ingress. I've had a few go through the wash before.

Flash drives are usually remarkably resilient.

Mine live in the compartment inside my car's dashboard. I have regularly seen temps over 80*C on the lid of the compartment and temps inside not too far off from that, measured with an infrared thermometer.

8 years old and still going strong :D

One would have thought that the water would have caused a short, but I guess if there was no power on the device and no caps and no moving parts.......

Guess once a year I might "format" all my USB flash drives in this manner.....

I've got compact flash and SD cards that have been washed, dried, and in some cases ironed numerous times.

Couple of years ago one of my flash drives whent threw the washing machine and on the same day I dropped it in a cup of coffee (don't ask). Still works today, I just used it last week.
