Say I wanted a Samsung S7 with 3GB of data on a contract, could I get it? Or would I have to live with getting (and paying) for SMSes and on net minutes I don't want?

MTN also has something like that.

Just so you know though SMSs cost virtually nothing for the operator to add. You're not paying for them either way. They're just included to make it feel like you're getting more value.

I know of tablets going like that, but haven't seen phones on this kind of contracts.

Do you know the name of that MTN package? And as far as the SMSes, I do not mind them so much, its the on net minutes from can't stand.

That seems to be way really but hopefully Cell c with their SmartChat can change things for the better. Give me pure data with a phone and I'm set.

Oh I see, its the My MTNChoice +. But I dislike how they still insist on bolting minutes and even SMSes. Why no pure data with a phone damnit??!!!

Maybe because it's a phone and not a 3G router...

Same price for me on Vodacom whether prepaid or post paid.

As long as you are buying bundles, which anyone sensible person should.
You buy your phone cash? And how much you pay for your data per month?

I was planning to, but ended up getting for an iPhone 5S free on a R200 per month Topup at R200.

So a no brainer as I would have spent R200 on airtime anyway.

If I want an iPhone 7 I can eBucks it and lose absolutely nothing.

I'm just frustrated by the lack of this data plus phone option. Surely you'd agree with me that there is a market for it. I want a high end device but can't afford it cash, I also want plenty of data (3GB plus) at contract prices.

Yup.

Exactly my problem as well.

And it's often just a lack of decent packages on Topup too.

Having looked around it seems like the best option would be to settle for a mid range device( Samsung A3/5, Sony M4 or Huawei P8 lite etc) and get that on credit at CNA/Edgars. Then you just get a sim only data contract of your choice. Some of these phones available are dual sim, so you'd be able to choose the voice option of your choice.
