Phone Line or ADSL Problem.

1. did you report your telephone line or your ADSL line ??(although they run on the same copper line different tests apply)
2.If you want to change your jack do so i dont think any one will notice the difference.(only 2 wires connected )
3."Also the disconnecting are getting more frequent as the temperature rises, could it be an overheating problem somewhere?"
The only thing that would heat up is the modem and you have changed that a few times.
You said you changed your modem 4 times so i am assuming 4 different power supply's for 4 different modems .The best way to test is connect the modem strait in to the telephone jack ,no spltter no phone nothing connected).
BTW where are you ?
To rule out the power it would be great if you could hook a multimeter up to the 220 supply and see when you disconnect if the power is stable or not.

When I did the test like you said, there is still a slight cracking sound in the background.

OK, doesn't sound like a noise problem then - it's usually very noticeable and quite often ADSL will work fine despite it.

Where are you located, you mention the problem might be heat related do you have any form of aircon that cycles on/off?

Edit: FNfal beat me to it :)

I reported my telephone line for noise, not my ADSL connection.
Yes it was 4 different modems, 2 had the same power cable but the other 2 have different cables.
I did connect the adsl line directly into the jack, then it disconnects like crazy, even worse than the constant disconnects.
I live in Carnarvon, Northern Cape.
I can find a multimeter here, I guess that would rule out the power, thanks!
I don't have aircons, but my room has a good circulation.

When you connect the ADSL modem directly, it should behave exactly the same as through a splitter filter.
A splitter filter first splits the signal and then only filters the signal for the telephone with a low pass filter (thus blocking higher frequencies that the ADSL would use).

Like at my home I'm only using a filter for my telephone and none for my ADSL modem, because the Telkom box has 2 ports. I've never had a disconenct due to telephone calls.

Possible clue here, is the phone jack in your room where the Telkom line enters the building or an extension?

If an extension there could be a filter lurking somewhere else.

The telephone line enters my room straight from outside, then down the wall to the jack, there is a connection where the outside telephone line connects to the one coming into my house.

Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it!
I'll do that Mick, and yes, I'll be more than happy to if it is my fault, anything for stable internet!

So Telkom came and installed a new jack for me, now the ADSL doesn't drop when I pick up the phone, but I still have random disconnects. I'm really at my wits end now.

Well it seems escalation is working for you :)

Escalate again and say that you're happy one aspect of the problem is fixed (disconnecting when phone is used) but you're still having random disconnects - be upbeat that progress is being made, you don't want an unhappy techie.

BTW how often is random & which ISP are you currently using?

Well I was online for half an hour this morning before leaving for work, and it disconnected 4 times. I'm using Axxess at the moment, and also a local guy named Hantam. I used to be Telkom but I canceled my ADSL with them because I thought it was them causing the disconnects.
I have a friend that is an electrician and he's coming over this afternoon so that we can run some tests on my power, I really hope that it's the problem.
I just want to check the power before I make a fool of myself with Telkom.

Hi guys, thanks so much for the quick replies!
I have one phone, so I connected the splitter/filter into the phone line, then the phone and the adsl line into it.
Here is my Modem Log.

No I don't have a UPS connected, which one of those plugs is the one I have to buy?

Thank you so much guys!

Hi. Pls check you downstream attenuation. At 4mbps the line gets really unstable after about 53. The lower the better. If it's higher then 50 you can report a fault with Tekom internet(adsl). They will need to stabilize your line. You can also call and ask them to first downgrade your line to 3 or even 2 mbps just to test.

I had my line dropped to 3mb, 2mb, 1mb and 512kbps. The amount of disconnects stayed the same.

There are two other factors I also forgot to mention.
1: I have two telephone lines coming in through the same point, the one with the problem (301) and my old telephone line (694). 694 has been canceled, but the cable is still there and they are bound together with the same wall clamps from the point where they enter to the point where 301 goes down into my wall jack. If they are that close together, can it cause a problem?
2: At the point where 301 goes down to the wall jack, it runs right next to my main power plug where all my computer stuff gets plugged in, its an old house so the power cables weren't built into the house, the run like a normal power cable down the wall, it's just covered with a tube and painted over. Could the phone line running so close to the main power cause static buildup on the 301 line?

Here is a crude Paint drawing of how the lines look, the 694 and the 301 are bound tight together, and the 301 line is right next to the power outlet.

Is the AC in a metal tube? If so it shouldn't be a problem.

Two phone lines next to each other, one dead, also shouldn't cause hassles.

Question what exactly have you got plugged into that single AC wall plug - itemise and include everything incl desk lights, cellphone chargers, DSTV decoders etc

A lot of things! haha, ok well here goes.
Cellphone charger.
Hi Fi.
LCD Monitor.
PC.
Network Hub. (The fault isn't here because I connected my pc directly to the modem and it still disconnected)
Modem.
And of course all this takes 3 adapters so that everything can fit in.

I've tried those, problem is the 2pins that have to go in there, are funny shaped, so they don't fit next to the 3 pins. But I'll try to find a less conglomerate way of putting it all together.
The electrician is coming over to my house after 6:00PM when he get's off work. I'm also borrowing a friends UPS tonight, to see if it helps in any way.
