What do you mean by a consumer camera?

I can't remember the dudes name but he ran around with a couple of Olympus 5050, 7070 or 8080 cameras (was one of those models, can't remember) and that is what he used for his work. Normally news agents have certain requirements, megapixels for one, but this guy did not give a toss and still got his work submitted.

Some agencies have funny rules in place. I know of one that won't allow images from a 400D but a 40D or 1DMk3 is fine yet they all share similarly sized sensors. This is just for stock however - for editorial work they're happy with anything really.

In my pocket I carry a SX210IS. The 210 delivers some shots just as easily. maybe no the same in big print quality, but it gets the job done.

camera bodies are computers, and there comes a point where you have to decide what is the minimum spec computer you want to use. That can be surprisingly little as people usually overbuy.... My bag is old, but at the moment I can care less, coz it's out of my pocket I need to replace it.
