Pick n Pay executive data exposed in leak

Pick n Pay chief financial officer Lerena Olivier's personal information was among the over 100,000 people whose details were exposed in a recent Claim Expert data leak.

Claim Expert is the company Pick n Pay used to offer its vehicle licence disc renewal service from January 2022 until mid-2023.

Can't they stop/deallocate their servers at least so this stops?

What boggles the mind completely, how on earth was the data (except the password) stored in plain text. Why was the data not encrypted? Encrypting things like user's names, ID's? That should be standard.

I feel the POPIA should be amended so that the full report - including all the names of all the parties who failed to take steps to protect personal information - is made public each and every time the Information Regulator is notified about a leak.

Sounds like no proper tendering process was done, and no one bothered to see if the company was in any way competent, another group of companies, PnP itself included, that is being run by morons.

Well, my details were with these idiots and got leaked and the last 3 days I have had more spam calls than the previous 3 months combined. Wondering if it is related.
