Pick n Pay in broken chocolate row

Geez, so many assumptions are needed to prove your case...

When I open a bottle of water for my son (in a shop, before paying), it is because he is thirsty, and I forgot his water bottle in the car... It has nothing to do with manners or restrain on the his part. If I tell him, sorry, the water bottle is in the car... he'll be fine with that too.

And surely it is up to the shop owner/manager to decide if they want to allow this?

The shop owners are reluctantly forced to allow it.
Or you can see (in this incident) what will happen if they try to do anything about it.
So you are assuming that they are OK, with it, but they don't like it.
Once again, it's you that are forcing your desires on everyone else around you.

And let me guess, when your little angel spills that water in the store you won't be the one cleaning it up.

That is speculative!

My experience in the USA is that they will not allow you to eat or drink anything in a store.

Makes sense, the staff usually have to clean up.

I have always been against consuming products before I have paid, my folks wouldn't let me do it, and I wouldn't let my kids do it.

i need to understand why in-store gobblers feel entitled to wander around the store stuffing their faces with unpaid items.

despite the assertion that "ill pay for it anyway", why exactly is it you are unable to wait until you have actually paid for it and are outside the store or in your car - what is the cause of your behavior ?
lack of discipline
lack of self control
entitlement issues

let me ask you this - if you are in a liquor store are you also unable to contain your urge to consume, do you crack open a beer or open a bottle of tequila and start guzzling while you wonder the aisles ?

I only do it if I'm thirsty and the queue is long. Bottled water I mean, not beer or tequila.
If I have a thirst it must quenched ASAP.

When you have a crying grumpy toddler, having quick access to a pack of biscuits really helps :p

Yeah, you know sometimes you get a tickle in your throat and it's annoying as heck? Next time, I'm going to go stand in the queue, annoy a few people by trying to clear my throat, pay for my water and then go back to my shopping.

Do we have all the facts. Nobody, except the two parties witnessed the incident. Nobody else came forward. In my long career as a cop I learned one rule. The is always three sides to a "story". The two parties involved and truth. Sort out the truth with the facts at your disposal and not with your emotions. In this instance I still say we do not have all the true facts to form a proper deduction. Kudos to PnP to react so swiftly and hope that they will also give their staff involved in the issue a fair "trail".

Not entitled no, I do it because I am allowed to and I pay for it. The fact that you don't like it is your problem :p

Yeah, I agree.
Chocolates are often broken during delivery.
I bet the little boy didn't even break it in the first place.

And you are also assuming that they AREN'T okay with it :erm: I'm not forcing my desires on anyone. You are forcing your desires on me :)

The incident in the OP was about a broken chocolate, not about eating something and paying for it later.

Ha ha, now you make up another scenario about spilling water ?

>Child with granny broke chocolate.
>Staff member sees this and asks granny to pay for it.
>Granny tells staff member she doesn't have any money.
>Staff member says he will go and talk to manager.
>Whilst staff member is walking away, granny had a panic attack.
>Manager comes back and calms granny down.

Staff member was literally doing his job.
Manager did his job and calmed her down and obviously told her that it was ok.
Granny was probably on edge.

no, you are not allowed to do it, you do it because you know in all probability you will get away with it

/marks one up for "entitlement issues"

Who and where says I'm not allowed to do it?

Your dislike of it doesn't mean it's not allowed...
