Pick your Springbok 22 for 2009

Heard J. Fourie might be moving overseas :(

Hope this does not make him a "forgotten" springbok come next season....

1. Beast - (I would still choose Os if he was playing) :p
2. Bismarck (If he can hold on to a ball)
3. CJ v d Linde (He is Killing it in Europe)
4. Bakkies (no contest)
5. Victor (ditto)
6. Heinrich Brussow (playing much better than Schalk atm and we need a fetcher against those big Lions)
7. Juan Smith (no contest)
8. Pierre Spies / Duane Vermeulen (to soften up the guys - then bring on Ryan in last 25 minutes)
9. Fourie Du Preez (we need those perfect kicks from the base of a ruck)
10. Erm.. Erm.. Ruan Pienaar (i dont think we have a decent flyhalf and Butch is out)
11. Nokwe (just needs to work on that defense a little bit, but he is running great lines at great speeds atm)
12. Meisiekind (he is rocking atm)
13. Jaque Fourie (no contest)
14. JP Pietersen (back to his former glory)
15. Frans Steyn/Stefan Tereblanche (I can't decide)

16. John Smit (Can double up as prop)
17. BJ Botha/
18. Schalk Burger (you can never leave him out of a team)
19. Frans Steyn/Stefan Tereblanche
20. Ryan Kanko
21. Cocky (If he doesn't floor anybody again)
22. Habana/Ndugane (we will need all the pace we can get against monsters like Shane Williams)

Lots of versatile players in the squad. So Juan Smith can always cover at lock. John at prop. Lots of guys that can play either Flyhalf/Wing/Centre/Fullback. So I think we are covered.

ROFL :D take it "meisiekind" = waynand olivier?

He is in my books one of those guys who fails as soon as you dress him up in a boks jersey :o

Also frans steyn seems to be out :(

Yes it is Olivier. :D And yes he really screwed up his chances last time. But nobody can deny that he is playing better than all the other centres. And with Jean out atm I chose him. If Jean is back before that it will be a tough choice for Snorre.
Is Frans out for good or just for the S14? That will be a massive loss for the Boks.
We need his kicking boot, his power and his aggressive defense.
But he can also cost us a game by trying to be to flamboyant and trying those silly little drop-kicks.

I tend to agree that Olivier doesn't seem to be anything when he's out of his Bulls comfort zone. A dodgy choice if he does get picked :o

Maybe Snorre can bring back Os again.
Just after the WC win in 2007 the Boks made an appearance at the Currie Cup Final that year. I remember sitting in front with Os coming past and the whole stadium chanting OS, OS, SO!!!! I also remember all the Boks leaving mid-way through the second half with only Os staying to watch the game. After the Cup was handed over we met him on the field and he said he is gonna miss this soooo much. That guy was a legend.

Actually there is a lot of players like that. Only performing when playing in certain teams.
Just look at Willem de Waal. He was the stand out player at the Cheetahs and yet can't get that same dominance at the Stormers even with a better pack of forwards and better players next to him.

+1.

Seems everything the weepee touches turns to shlt :p

Yes I know its a bit early and a lot can still happen buuuut I want to see who you guys think are the 22 that we should send with current injuries to some players.

  1. -Guthro Steenkamp
  2. -John Smit
  3. -Tendai Mtawarira
  4. -Bakkies Botha
  5. -Victor Matfield
  6. -Juan Smith
  7. -Schalk Burger
  8. -Piere Spies
  9. -Fourie du preez
  10. -Morne Steyn
  11. -Bryan habana
  12. -Jean de Villiers (I take it he will be ready for the 1st test)
  13. -Jacques Fourie (PdV says he is to play fullback  Him + JdV = best centre combo IMO)
  14. -JP Pietersen (Experience is what gets him the jersey ahead of Akona)
  15. -Stefan Terblanche / Zane kirchener
  16. -Bismarck du Plessis
  17. -Jannie du Plessis
  18. -Heinrich Brussow (Just to damn good not to pick)
  19. -Danie Rossouw (He can play lock, 8th man or flanker but I have a feeling Kanko will get this slot)
  20. -Wynand Olivier (Rather adi jacobs if he recovers in time) / Ruan Pienaar
  21. -Rory Kocket (will increase the pace in the last 20-15 mins, also a kicker if butch is having a bad day or hurt)
  22. -Akona Nungane/Nokwe

Still feel this will be a great team. Slotted Morne Steyn into nr10 spot.
