I am experiencing picture break-up on all HD sport channels the last few weeks , but today it is really bad , the tour de france is unwatchable, I can only watch it on SD. Do others have the same problem? My HDPVR is only a few months old, so don't think it is a hardware problem , or maybe LNB/cable ?

Get an installer out to check your installation. No problems on multiple setups here at the office and I've had no phone calls. My guess would be dish/LNB alignment, cable or multiswitch (if you have one).

If you have to smaller Dish size then HD channels will suffer alot, you must get the bigger Dish (80cm - 110cm??).

Also happened to my uncle and the problem went away after he installed the bigger dish.

This is not true yet, but will be next year...

It is an intermittent problem, all the HD channels are fine now, later this afternoon. Was able to watch the finish of TDF in HD

Now it is doing it again with the message "Check that your set-top box is properly connected to the cable point etc." I used to get this message only with bad weather but now it is not the case.

the signal quality is only 49% on Tuner 1 if I test in on the effected HD channels , signal strength is 98%...Tuner 2 both signal strength and quality are >90%... On HD 1, which never gives problems the Tuner 1 and Tuner 2 are >90%, so this must be the problem (Tuner 1 only 49% signal strength on certain HD channels) The Dish is 90cm , please help.

The skew angle of your LNB is out, 174 for example is a horizontal channel which I assume you have problems with. View 174 & record it and both tuners will show 49% quality

@ Smurfatefrog yes you are right, now both tuners show 49% quality, thanks. Time to get on the roof....

Diagnosis was correct, fixed it myself, thanks to all the knowledgeable guys on this forum.

The cable can also deteriorate. My original installation was done in 1996 and the cable was replaced last week. Big improvement in signal quality and picture

Strangely enough the HD picture was still brilliant even with the poor signal strength, only symptom was intermittent picture fracture when weather was not perfect, I think they replaced the cables a few years ago when I had the dual LNB installed.

Its a digital picture, so it kinda works or it doesn't. If you have bad signal you're not going to have a snowy HD picture, it will just breakup
