Pine tree raining sap.

I have a pinetree, at least I think it is a pine tree, in my backyard. Usualy during spring tiny cones appear and out of these cones a yellow powder usualy falls to the ground or gets blown around all over. This year the tree has been dripping sap.

If I stand underneath the tree i can see drops fall, almost like rain drops, dripping from the tree after there was rain. The droplets are sticky clear drops. These drops are attracting allot of bugs.

The tree itself looks in good condition. It does not seem like it is sick or dying.

Today when I went for a walk around the neighbourhood, I noticed the same type of pine tree I have on a business property doing the same thing. You can see the drops fall from above and around the tree see the mark of sticky sap on the ground. I know this tree also never did this because I take walks, regularly and when I passed this tree in the past stuff did not drip on my head.

I then walked around and found another tree in someone elses yard and saw the stain of sticky stuff on the paving under this tree. What the hell is it? Why are all these trees dripping sap?

Since we had a bit of rain a few weeks ago this all stopped. no more dripping honeydew, no more insects and all the stickyness washed away.
