Ping Issues Over Steam

Hi,

My friends and I are trying to play Left 4 Dead over Steam.
However when one of hosts the game, the other player has 400-450 ping.

We have both got 10mbps internet and we only live +/- 2km away from each other.
We have no idea what is the issue or how to fix it, so any help or advice would be welcome.

Let me guess. One of you has Telkom as ISP?

Yes I do (The horror!!!)

That is your problem. Telkom is useless with international lately. So even though you live next door to each other you still authenticate to Steam (International) and the game synchs with the Steam cloud. get a trial account from Afrihost and watch your troubles dissapear.
