hi guys, i enjoy playing games locally, i recently upgraded to a 4 meg line, now, when hosting dota, people complain that they lag badly, usually ending in swearing.

I downgraded the line to 3 mb due to rumors of 4meg instability, still the same problem, my ping is extremely eratic, on Americas Army it keeps spinning up and down at rapid speeds.

Im on the phone to telkom now, going to downgrade to 1mb, could that solve the latency problem?

ive tried both telkominternet and mweb isps, doesnt seem to help...

any ideas?

If your getting a unstable line or line errors at 4MB, downgrading might help. I've just stopped playing AA due to latency problems. For the past 2 months or so AA's been terrible.

log onto your router, and check your line's SNR . (if u have 10-15 SNR and sync'd at 3mbit or 4mbit, then your fine)

Then i would suggest looking at your provider account, maybe buy unshaped account specially for international online gaming like WoW or Hellgate london , etc.etc

or do a pingtest to local karoo gaming server

Start ->> run ->> Type in CMD. *little black dos box will popup*

Then type in , Ping Karoo.mweb.co.za -t

If you are on IS (Internet Solution) anything from 35-60ms is fine, you should be getting 20-40ms on Saix (Telkom Internet).

If you get alot of ping-timeouts or destination unreachable. Then there might be hardware problems, either the router, or telkom line.
