Hi. I have Telkom ADSL at home in JHB. Im thinking of getting Vox 100Gig special. When I use speed test and ping Vox in Jhb it has 2.11 Mbps download on a 4mbps line but when ping Telkom in Centurion i get 3.5Mbps. Does that mean that the Vox line will be slower and why ? its closer in Jhb. (Mweb is at 2.4Mbps) Thx in advance

What now?

What ping speed are you referring to?

Use a picture.

everyisp is diffrent, vox had some speed problems last night (dont know if its fixed)

and yah the one who gives u more is faster, but isp to isp differ alot, also depending on what account you use,uncap/cap?

also we dont call it "ping" its just a speed test"

"ping" is latency, the response time between you and the server, usaly around 9-50 for local tests

when your exchange is bad it will usually go up to the 200+ locally

Thank you.

Sorry I didnt know the terminology.

Its not the ping speed. Its the download speed. The ping is 15ms.

Im just trying to ascertain if its better to stay with a faster telkom or more data with a slower Vox or Mweb.

This download speed has been similar for the last few days.

To be fair routing on the ISPs side could also be a contributing factor to high latency...

ur correct, but high latency is a indication of a possible exchange issue ,in the case of very high local latancy, better to do a tracert rather than a ping test to see if its the isp or exchange

its ok :)for the speed, it all depends on how much u are paying now and willing to pay?
and how much data ur planning to use,but TI (tekom internet) is not bad for everyday use and file download

whos your primary isp atm?
