Pings to BF2 servers

hi all

I got a test account from websfrica today (IS based). Now, something really confuses me and I was hoping someone might know the answer.

To certain BF2 servers the ping was fine (30). These servers didn't have many ppl on them. The time was about 12:30pm.

To the other sever the ping was around 170. This server had aprox.20 ppl on it and it was just after the above mentioned event.

What could be the possible causes? Could it be the server?the amount of ppl on the server?or just simply the account?

That sounds perfectly natural.

When the servers are under load the latency is affected, hence when the servers get fulled everyone starts to laaaag.

170 is still quite acceptable. Anly when you start hitting 250+ should you start worrying. "Ping" requests are also misleading as they have a tiny packet size, a real message is more likely to be 100ms+ anyway.

usually its best to judge a server's latency once you are inside the game on that server... with 2x64kb on ISDN i would get 80-90ms with no lag on 48 player servers.

yeah once in the game the ping drops right down. (most of the time)
