Italian design house turned carmaker Automobili Pininfarina has previewed a special Anniversario edition of its upcoming Battista electric hypercar.
Being revealed at Geneva, the 'strictly limited volume' Battista Anniversario has been created to celebrate Pininfarina's 90th birthday. Just five will be built, each featuring a bespoke aero package and unique commemorative livery.
The special edition's arrival comes as Pininfarina gears up to launch the Battista in its final production guise. The company claims that recent track tests have pushed the Lotus Evija rival to "80% of its phenomenal performance capability", and will offer prospective customers test drives before the end of summer.
Late last year, the firm released new shots of the Battista, showing new interior details and the model's final production design. The front end, reworked following the last stage of aerodynamic testing, features more defined creases along the bonnet, while the wing mirrors appear to have been reshaped to enhance airflow.

The new boss of luxury EV maker Automobili Pininfarina has told Autocar that the 1900bhp Battista hypercar is on course to reach customers this year – and said that new technology partnerships will accelerate the firm’s subsequent plans.
Industry veteran Per Svantesson was recently appointed Automobili Pininfarina CEO as part of a management reshuffle. The Swede, who had served as chief operating officer since 2018, replaced Michael Perschke. Former Ferrari and Maserati engineer Paolo Dellachà’s role has been expanded to chief product and engineering officer, replacing Christian Jung, while a new sales boss has also been appointed.

How to develop an electric hypercar during a pandemic
Covid-19 hit Pininfarina's operations hard, but the 217mph Battista is still on track for 2021 deliveries
When Automobili Pininfarina set out a development and testing programme for its 1900bhp, 217mph Battista electric hypercar, the disruption of a global pandemic clearly wasn’t part of the plan.
But with customers already told that deliveries were due to begin in late summer 2021, the company knuckled down, adapted its programme and forged on with development.
Nine prototypes have now been built, including three dynamic evaluation cars sent to southern Italy for as full an engineering development programme as possible.
“It has been challenging, yes, and things have gone more slowly than we planned,” said Automobili Pininfarina CEO Per Svantesson, “but we remain on course for job one in 2021.”
The Swede comes across as unflappable and determined – attributes much needed during the pandemic response – and says he has committed up to 17 hours a day to video meetings from his Munich home to keep the Battista project and its 110 staff on track. “My wife brings me meals at my desk and the day moves on,” he joked.

The turn-in is whip-crack sharp, Heidfeld merely rolling his wrists to align the nose with the apex. You can sense the stiffness of its carbonfibre monocoque. There’s virtually no roll, just a flat and neutral stance as substantial lateral forces build. The speed carried through the initial part of each of the Nardò handling track’s 16 corners is astonishing. In damp conditions, though, it is the grip that limits the handling.
Buyers can choose between a standard aero package and a more track-oriented set-up that is claimed to provide added downforce and stability.
Even in standard form, it will set you back at least £1.7m. It is truly impressive. The Battista will certainly be something special when it is launched later this year.

Italian firm says 128 million combinations are available and has revealed a New York City-inspired exampleAutomobili Pininfarina will offer customers the opportunity to add their own design features to their Battista orders with a personalisation programme.
The firm says 128 million design combinations are possible for the 1900bhp electric hypercar. Customers can customise exterior paint colours, interior finishes and aluminium detailing or choose exposed carbonfibre bodywork.
Other customisable options include alterations to the mirror caps, rear wing, brake calipers, alloy wheels and centre-lock rings. Engravings on the Battista chassis plate between the car’s seats and on the passenger door can also be personalised.
“The Pininfarina name has a storied heritage of individual cars, and the Battista continues this legacy, as every vehicle will be truly bespoke by design,” said Sara Campagnolo, the firm’s head of colour and materials design.

Automobili Pininfarina has pulled the covers off of its first bespoke commission of the new Battista hypercar. Inspired by New York City, the battery-powered beast has exposed carbon fibre bodywork as part of its red, white and blue colour scheme. The blue aspect comes courtesy of an Iconica Blu thread, which is a world-first according to the carmaker.
Pininfarina says that every Battista hyper GT will be unique and individually tailored to the customer’s preference through its specially developed personalisation programme. Clients will be able to create their dream car from the comfort of a recently refurbished studio facility that runs alongside the production line in Cambiano, near Turin. Here they will be able to choose unique exterior paint colours and combinations as well as interior finishes and engravings. Furthermore, Pininfarina says this pioneering programme gives clients direct access to Battista designers, to ensure that no two models are the same.
As a reminder, the Pininfarina Battista features a fully-electric powertrain that produces 1 417 kW and 2 300 N.m and the vehicle is said to be capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in under two seconds. The 120 kWh battery pack offers a range of around 450 km between charges, according to Pininfarina. To keep weight to a minimum, the car features a carbon fibre monocoque, bonded carbon roof and rear carbon subframe.

As a reminder, the Pininfarina Battista features a fully-electric powertrain that produces 1 417 kW and 2 300 N.m and the vehicle is said to be capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in under two seconds. The 120 kWh battery pack offers a range of around 450 km between charges, according to Pininfarina. To keep weight to a minimum, the car features a carbon fibre monocoque, bonded carbon roof and rear carbon subframe.

They say it's "New York-inspired" but I'm not sure whyThe Pininfarina Battista is a 1,900-hp geographical potpourri. It's designed in Italy by Pininfarina, the world famous design house founded in 1930 by Italian designer Battista 'Pinin' ('the youngest brother' in Piedmontese dialect) Farina, and assembled in Croatia, but the company that builds it is technically German.
The Battista is closely related to the Rimac Nevera, built on a similar carbon-fibre monocoque, and powered by the same 4-motor electric powertrain and Rimac-sourced 120 kWh battery pack. It delivers 1,417 kW (1,900 hp) and an astounding 2,300 Nm (1,696 lb-ft) of torque.
They're only going to build 150 units, priced from around 2 million euros, and each car can be customised at will, which is what you'd expect from a car this rare and expensive.
The cabin features Pilota seats upholstered in black leather and Iconica Blu Alcantara with blue stitching - one of nine different contrast stitching colours available - and blue seatbelts.
