Hi,

I want to get one of these cards and don't only want it to pick up SABC 1,2,3 and ETV. The only way to get DSTV on there would be to run a S-video/RCA cable through my roof - which I'm happy to do.

The thing is, from pictures of this, it dosn't HAVE audio inputs! Only a RCA/S-video input. Am I missing something? What inputs do other TV tuner cards have?

my tv tuner card has s-video, a composite in, audio out, ir in, ummm a normal analog tv cord thing in! umm there we go!

do it via s-video, thats something i prefer, one cable for both vid and sound, not 3!

can I have what you are smoking please?:D

svideo only carries a video signal...no audio.

the pinnacle tuner you are referring to has audio inputs...the one that works with the streamer you have is a normal software based card, pctv something or other...you route the audio into the tv tuner, then form there to your motherboards line in connector, the software then mixes the two together.

I have one here, going semi-spare. If you are willing to pay for postage and a bit of beer money I can send it to you.
Comes with the remote control and the remote receiver (plugs into serial port) but no software...get it form pinnacle themselves.

I think hes talking about the DVI cable that has the audio connected to it. One connector on one side the 3 connectors on the other.

now, what are YOU talking about? a dvi cable? that is a video cable..
a dvi cable with a sound carrier is a hdmi cable (to be blunt...still one connector)

cmon guys...if you dont know, dont post pls...this bloke is confused enough already

I also have an Pinnacle PCTV card.

First you should know the following:
Look at this pic
From the top the plugs are: TV-IN, Audio-Out, Video-In(RCA), Video-In(S-Video)

The PCTV card slots into a PCI slot through which it transfers the decoded Video stream. The audio has to go from the Audio-Out on the card to your Line-In via a supplied cable. Some models also have an internal Audio-Out that connects to you Soundcard's CD-In or Aux-In plug using a simmilar cable to the one you use to connect your CD-Drive's Audio-Out. (Usually a thin grey cable)

There are two ways to watch tv.

1. Via Normal TV cable (Coaxial - solid core, stranded shield)
Run a normal tv cable from your TV aerial or MultiChoise decoder's TV-Out to the TV-In on the card. In the TV-viewing software you select Tuner for video input, tune to channel and select apropriate Audio input.(External - Line-In / Internal - CD/AUX-In)

:) - Easy to setup, Sharp Image, One cable from Decoder to PC
:( - Mono sound

2. Via RCA Cables (Red, White and Yellow plugs)
Video and Audio run on seperate cables.
For Video: For this you will need a simple RCA to RCA cable. Example.
Run the RCA->RCA cable from the Video-Out(Yellow) on the Decoder to the Video-In((Yellow) on the PCTV Card.
For Audio: For this you will need a Dual-RCA to Headphone-jack cable. Example.
Plug the Red and White RCA plugs into your decoders Left and Right Audio-Out plugs (Red->Red, White->White). Plug the Headphone-jack into your soundcard's Line-In (blue) plug. In the TV-viewing software you select RCA for video input and select Line-In for audio input

:) - Stereo Sound, TV-out on decoder is free to go to TV
:( - Image isn't as sharp, Lots of Cables

Hope this clears up some confusion caused by the *cough* smoke *cough* above.

as tester said...:-)

obviously, if you are using it for dstv , then route the dstv sound directly into the mb's line input....

Hey hey ;) I'm not really confused :P The picture I saw had a S-video in and RCA video in ... that's the only problem ;) By the way tester - I'm not authorised to view that picture. Is it on my side or web side?
