I have been busy to getting me a dedicated torrent box going.

I have been using my main pc and home server on various occassions for this function, but it's just not very practical.

I don't want my HDD's running 24/7 if it's not required or in the case of my main pc I don't see the need to have my GPU running also for that amount of time when it is not required.

So I have identified the Shuttle X27 (at a very , very reasonable price- that I got it at) as a perfect candidate for this task.

All I need is a 2.5" 5400RPM HDD and some ram to go with and then we're a for away.

Also as an additional little luxury item for adhoc use with my box and server incase they don't want to play nice with RDP, I have included the following item for me as well :

MiMo UM-740

Using the touch screen :

It also has a webcam and the screen can swivel :

These 2 purchases are essentially "for keeps" they are unique items that I am going to keep until they can't go on any longer.

So me excited , just trying to source monitor via friends abroad.

This thing going to be on display, or just sitting in a cupboard somewhere? Who cares about a screen? Just use remote desktop!

Also keep in mind that you won't be able to play online while the torrents are running, unless you get one of those gaming routers. :D

The display is an all round item, a tool if you may.

Also good for future use and portability.

Currently my connector on my WHS box is a bit fsked and because of a little amended change to my WHS that is not sanctioned by M$ my RDP it not work - it's borked.

So in cases like these it will be a dream for me, without having to tinker, especially when I am not in the mood to.

So that's why I said, it will be a little luxury item with multiple uses.

I am addicted to gadgets, I have to admit

What is the recommended HDD size? This is my only hurdle when using an old PC. I could connect an old laptop drive via external enclosure. Guess the speed there wouldn't really negatively impact on transfers up and down a 384 line. In fact, would it even effect a 4meg line?

Also keep in mind that you won't be able to play online while the torrents are running, unless you get one of those gaming routers. :D

been running grabit for most nights this week and had no hassles at all during my DOTA sessions, not one DC from anyone in my games and I have been hosting.

QOS and 4MB FTW

Any reason for sale, or you just wanted something prettier? (Being a gadget freak and all);)

Primarily, it's the novelty - new gadget and all.

But size , was the most important factor -it's small and tech is relatively new.

I also got a fairly good price for the VIA, which funded 90% of the outlay for the new x27.

Me is obsessed with smaller and better.

My monster ITX ran a E8500.00 , 4GB Ram and a 9800gx2 :D

Although I am moving the itx LV-678 to the permanent WHS box now.

waiting on I7 mobo - Bloodrage to become available.

Well she is up and running, exlcuding the monitor, which is arriving next week.

Stats for her first full on dedicated weekend :

Total Combined (Mb): 48599.77
% Cap Used: 2263.1%
